Woodburn News - April 22, 2022

4-22

We launched new after school clubs this week.  Clubs include soccer, Legos, hip-hop dance, and more.  It has been fun to see our students engage in these enriching experiences.

Dear Woodburn Families,

It has been another busy week at Woodburn! Thank you to all of the families that participated in our PTA and Community Meeting last night.  We appreciated the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue about student behavior and look forward to ongoing conversations about how we can partner together to support our entire community. Many families requested that we share two images we used during our discussion about bullying.  Those images can be found below.

We are grateful to be part of such a supportive community and hope you will continue to reach out as we continue this important work.

Together We Grow,

Katy and Bridget

Mark your Calendars for Teacher Appreciation Week!  May 2-6

From the PTA

We have the best teachers and faculty here at Woodburn!  We are excited to celebrate and thank them for all of their hard work and support. The PTA has a number of special events planned throughout the week, and there are several ways you and your children can participate!

The PTA will be providing the teachers breakfast on Monday--if you would like to donate food, you can sign up here.

The PTA has also posted several resources here that you can help your kids think about how to celebrate all of the Woodburn teachers and staff who make their week bright.

From Katy & Bridget

We are also excited for teacher appreciation week!  Each year we collect gift cards from families to raffle off to our staff.  Our goal is to collect one gift card per teacher.  We hope you might consider donating a gift card to be raffled off during this special week.

Gift cards can be brought to the main office.  Please put them in an envelope with your child's name as we want to extend our thanks to all who donate.  Thank you in advance.

Celebrate Earth Day in Woodburn’s Outdoor Classroom

The PTA invites you to join us in Woodburn’s Outdoor Classroom to celebrate Earth Day tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd. We will be weeding, laying down new soil, and planting vegetables in the garden beds and flowers in the front. Please bring gloves, digging materials, and water bottles. A group of us will be meeting at 9:30 and will be gardening until about 11/11:30. Please sign up here so we know you are coming.

2022-2023 Parent Input for Class Placement

We are starting to work on our plans for the 2022-2023 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions listed below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or a hard copy may be sent to the office by May 20, 2022. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

Health & Safety Reminders

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.

Monitoring Your Child's Health

Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day.  This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.

Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.

Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine

FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
