Principals' Message

Happy Spring Gunston Families!

We cannot believe that the fourth quarter started this week!  We were so excited to see families join our Strategies Fair at the end of March.  Families were able to take with them strategies and games to help support their students with essential skills.  It was fantastic to have our first in person family event and look forward to many more in the future.  This week we also welcomed almost 50 new eagles to our Kindergarten Orientation and can’t wait to have them join the nest next year.  As we begin this last quarter and prepare for end of year assessments, it is important that students are coming to school well rested and ready for the day!  We encourage students on their days of testing to do their best and create a relaxed environment prior to beginning the assessments.  As a result testing may not begin until mid-morning and it is important that you do not schedule any appointments for them to be picked up early on those days.  Students cannot pause state assessments and finish the next day, so if you do have a conflict with schedules, please communicate with the teacher so we do not begin testing them on that day.  We are proud of our students’ growth and effort this year!

We look forward to engaging in many of our typical end of the year events this year.  Please stay tuned for additional information over the next few weeks.

Sincerely,

Kristen Rucinski and Ebony Opie

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans.

Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. There are approximately 3.7 million Arab Americans in the U.S.
