Autism Acceptance Month: April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students. In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, activities have been organized based on a weekly theme. Please visit the FCPS website, ABA Service page, for more information.
Month of Military Child: April is the Month of the Military Child. We will be celebrating the contributions and the sacrifice of our military familes with a spirit week next week. We thank all of our military families for their service.
As always I appreciate your input, feedback and questions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at any time.

Celebrations and Observances in Our Community:
Good Friday (Apr. 15): Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a day of mourning. During special Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus's suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. FCPS has designated Good Friday as a religious and cultural observance day designed to allow students the opportunity to miss school for observances not already designated as school holidays.
Passover (Begins Apr. 15): Jewish families will begin the celebration of Passover at sundown tonight, Friday, April 15th. The first and second nights of the holiday are often marked by ritual family meals called seders. Passover is a time to remember when God, through Moses, freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as told in the book of Exodus in the Bible. For those who celebrate, all leavening, whether in bread or other products, is prohibited and only unleavened bread, called matzo, may be eaten until the holiday ends the evening of April 23rd. The matzo symbolizes both the suffering of the Israelites while kept as slaves and the speed with which they left Egypt, leaving so quickly that there was not enough time for their bread dough to rise.
Theravada New Year (Apr. 16): In countries where Theravada Buddhism is the most dominant religion, April is the month of celebration. It marks the end of the lunisolar calendar and the beginning of another, just like January 1 for most people in the world, and is why this holiday is termed the Theravada New Year. The Theravada New Year is celebrated for three days from the first full moon in April. Theravada means “the teachings of the elders.” Celebrations begin with people attending the local temple in the morning for chanting and meditation. In the afternoon they have a water festival in which they meet the Buddha image and pay respect to the elderly by watering their hands together. Building sandcastles is also one of the most popular activities during this day of celebration. (This holiday occurs when school is not in session.)
We recognize our RRMS families who are observing and celebrating these holidays.

Program Surveys -
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality. This Survey has been approved by the FCPS Internal Survey Review Committee. Seal Approval Number 22224.
Over 90% of our students participated in the after-school program this school year, with over 21,000 occurrences of students staying after-school. Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School After-School Program!
Survey window April 18-22, 2022. All survey responses are due by April 22, 2022.
