Tree Planting at GBW!
On Tuesday our GBW students helped plant 8 trees donated by the Urban Forestry Division of Fairfax County. There were 6 new River Birch Trees planted around the front of GBW, and 2 Willow Oak trees planted by the side parking lot. It was a beautiful day for planting and to learn the benefits of tree planting for the environment.
Thank you again to the Urban Forestry Division for this generous donation and to Hugh Whitehead for helping our students to plant these beautiful trees!
 
April Is Month of the Military Child; Purple Up! Day is April 20
April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.
To show our support, we are inviting all students, families, and staff to WEAR PURPLE on April 20 to support our military families.
Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

The Chantilly Pyramid Art Show will be held at Chantilly High School on Wednesday, April 20 from 6-8 p.m. There will be displays of selected artwork from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, including some of our Greenbriar West artists! There will also be craft activities, a photo booth, and food trucks.

Earth Day is Friday, April 22, 2022 - Wear Green!
All GBW Students are encourgaged to wear a green shirt on Earth Day.
The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970, when 20 million people across America celebrated by filling their local streets, parks and auditoriums to demand a healthy, sustainable environment. Since then, Earth Day has been celebrated around the world, by people from all walks of life who are concerned about making a sustainable future for their children.

Coming Home Today - Please look for the Student’s Intention for Next School Year Form in today’s Thursday folder. We need your help in letting us know if your child will be returning to GBW next year. This will greatly help us in projecting our total enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Please return the form by Friday, April 22, 2022.
Did you know that 5% of the food that feeds children in our area comes from food drives just like ours? Our food drive is very important in our community and helps to feed children in the area!
As a result, we are very proud of our student participation in the Leadership Team Food Drive, which is taking place from April 11 to May 13. All donations will be delivered to the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a local outreach center that manages a food pantry for the local Fairfax community. They are incredibly appreciative of the work we are doing and would like GBW to know how much our commitment to servicing the community makes a difference in the lives of others. Donations must be non-perishable food and no glass. Our goal is to reach 1000 items!

Beginning April 14, FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost to families. Student participation is optional and parents/guardians can opt their student(s) out of accessing the services. Detailed information and FAQs are available on the Tutor.com Online Tutoring Services website.
Students will be able to access Tutor.com via a link in Schoology. Additional information about how to log in and access a tutor is provided to families via the following instructional videos:

Want to get more involved as a leader in our school community next year? Join the GBW PTA Executive Board! The GBW Parent Teacher Association is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the educational success and overall wellness of every child at Greenbriar West by encouraging strong parent, family, and community involvement Positions available next year are:

- President-Elect (to shadow one or two years and automatically assume the office of President)
- Vice President, Membership and Communications
- Vice President, Fundraising
- Secretary
- Treasurer
PTA Board Nominees for 2022-23 will be accepted until April 20, 2022, presented at the April 21 PTA Meeting, and elected at the May 26 PTA Meeting (additional Board nominations may be made from the floor at that time!)
