April is the month of the military child. On Wednesday, April 20th wear purple to help Annandale Terrace ES honor and celebrate all FCPS military families and their children.
Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.
Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans.
Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. There are approximately 3.7 million Arab Americans in the U.S. As a school, we honor and appreciate the rich diversity of our Annandale Terrace ES community.
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind” is a statement associated with exhibiting kindness to people of all circumstances and abilities.
During Autism Awareness Month, which is recognized in April, the Autism Society of America promotes its “Celebrate Differences” Campaign. This year, the Autism Society is formally shifting references of Autism Awareness Month to Autism Acceptance Month. They are doing so to promote change, have a greater understanding and acceptance of people with autism and encourage a kinder, more inclusive community.
“Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 54 children in the United States today.” AutismSpeaks.org
During Autism Acceptance Month, join in the Autism Society’s Celebrate Differences Campaign with kindness, acceptance, understanding and being inclusive in daily life of people with autism. On Friday, April 22nd, all ATES students and staff members are invited to wear the color Blue to recognize and honor Autism Awareness.
