Dear Beech Tree Families:
I hope you all enjoyed last week’s Spring Break with your families. I went to JMU Open House with my son and then drove up to Indiana to visit our family. It was time well spent!
On Thursday, March 31st, we were able to meet our future Beech Tree Families of Rising Kinders! It felt so good to connect in-person. We invited them to join us once your children were dismissed so that I could continue my commitment to you for the remainder of this school year of limiting your children’s exposure to non-FCPS staff.
This Thursday, April 14th, we will have our virtual PTA Meeting at 6:30pm and next Monday, April 18th we all students will have Spring Picture Retakes. I did not approve of the pictures that were taken, so I requested Lifetouch complete retakes for all.
This month, on Saturday, April 23rd, our PTA is still hoping to hold our Beech Tree Community’s favorite day of the year: The PTA Saturday Fun Fair! We would be disappointed if we had to cancel after missing it for the last two years. This is such a special in-person event. Please volunteer for a shift (or two, or three!) to make sure the Fun Fair can happen. Saturday shifts are mostly running games (it's easy and we have clear instructions!) Without these shifts filled, the Fun Fair cannot happen.

Prior to break, I shared that FCPS would be sharing more information about online tutoring programs:
- Student participation in online (voice and/or text chat) tutoring services is completely optional.
- Students will use the same FCPS-sponsored platforms they are familiar with for online learning.
- The tutors employed by Tutor.com do not work for Fairfax County Public Schools.
- All tutors must pass a thorough background check conducted by Tutor.com and meet federal and state requirements (aligned to FCPS practice).
- FCPS school staff do not participate in the online tutoring sessions between a student and their tutor.
- FCPS does not assume responsibility for supervision during tutoring sessions.
- For the purposes of safety and security, every tutoring session is recorded, and transcripts are available (up to 6 months) for students, parents and FCPS staff to review if needed.
Visit our online tutoring services website for additional information and responses to frequently asked questions (FAQ).
Opt-Out Information
Students will be able to access Tutor.com through a link in Schoology beginning mid-April, 2022. Your student will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless you submit an opt-out request. If you do not want your student to have access to this online tutoring resource, complete the opt-out via ParentVUE by April 11, 2022. Directions for opting out can be found on the Online Tutoring Services website. If you are unable to opt-out via ParentVUE, submit the hard copy form that will be sent home by your school. You may also opt your student out of Tutor.com tutoring service at a later date via ParentVUE or by submitting a request to your student's school.

iReady
iReady is an online Reading and Math intervention resource that is available to all of our 1st through 5th graders. IReady is adapted to each student’s needs based on their division-wide online iReady assessments. Your child may access this intervention at anytime and it will also be available to students over the summer break, so you may access it even while you travel. It can be found as an icon on the desktop of your student’s school laptop. If the icon will not work, or if you are accessing it on your home computer, your student may login through: http://www.fcps.edu/us
Health & Safety Procedures:
Visitors in the Building
Beech Tree visitors may enter by appointment only, with limited access to the building. All must have an ID, such a driver’s license or passport, and will be asked to respond to a Health Screening Questionnaire. Parents may drop off and pick up materials, as needed, by ringing the doorbell and communicating with office staff. Office staff will then bring the materials to you at the door or receive the materials from you at the door.
Water Fountain Use
Students should bring their own water bottle for use during the day. School staff will supervise the refilling of water bottles, as necessary. Water fountains should not be used as usual. Water fountains can be used to refill water bottles when practical, but students and staff should not drink directly from any water fountains or faucets, which could contribute to illness transmission; individual water bottles should be used instead.
Care Rooms
- The predetermined care room is a designated location and must be separate from the health room. It may be necessary for schools to identify a second care room due to the requirement for physical distancing and room capacity.
- A designated staff member must be assigned to supervise students while in the predetermined care room should the need arise. The staff member will be provided with a gown or lab coat, gloves, and a face shield as appropriate. Staff will need to be available at various times throughout the day to supervise any student exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 while awaiting pick up by the parent or guardian.
*At Beech Tree, the designated Care Rooms, so as not to impact student instruction, are the principal’s conference room and the principal’s office. The designated staff, so as not to impact student instruction, are the assistant principal, Maureen Lopez, and the principal, Karim Daugherty.
