FanQuest Rescheduled for April 30th!

FanQuest has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 30th at Woodson HS.  Come out and watch Woodson’s Special Olympics Unified Basketball team play Robinson Secondary School!

Unified is a model of Special Olympics where student athletes with disabilities and their same-aged peers play alongside one another on one unified team. This differs from Special Olympics because that model only has athletes with disabilities. With the support from our Woodson Buddies and Partnership class, Woodson HS has a strong Unified team and we participate in Soccer, Basketball and Track and Field. FanQuest is the culminating event for both Special Olympics and Unified Basketball.

Congrats to the Robotics Club!

The Woodson Robotics club has made it to Nationals in Houston, TX! The club was a recipient of a PTSO Grant to aid them in their endeavors. Thanks to everyone that supports the PTSO through memberships and donations and makes these opportunities possible for our talented students!

WTW CAVS SPORTS UPDATES

Athletic Calendar

Check out all of these opportunities to enjoy the spring weather and cheer on our teams! Follow @Woodsonathletic on Twitter for current athletic updates and schedules.

Varsity Baseball

Woodson’s Varsity Baseball team played a trio of games over spring break.  Three games in as many days challenged the team to go deeper in its pitching rotation and use the bench more than usual.

On Monday, the Cavaliers faced off against a tough McLean team.  The Highlanders started RHP Griffin Steig, a highly touted prospect whose 93 mph fastball drew multiple college and pro scouts to the game.  Steig overwhelmed Woodson’s hitters the first time through the lineup, setting down the first nine in order.  Colin Jones got the offense going when he squared to bunt, then slashed a single through the infield as the fielders rotated to cover the bunt.  Colton Lennen was hit by a pitch, then both runners advanced on a passed ball and again on a dropped third strike.  Brady Lencz then drove in Lennen with a single up the middle.  Those same three combined for another run in the 6th, when Jones walked, Lennen singled, and Lencz got his second hit of the day.  Unfortunately, the Highlanders offense was more explosive, with two home runs and four doubles to power McLean to a 6-3 victory.

Woodson hosted Edison on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, but the weather couldn’t dampen Woodson’s spirits or its bats.  Four Cavaliers notched muli-hit games, led by Brady Lencz’s double and two singles.  Ryan Ramirez pitched well, yielding no earned runs, while striking out five.  Edison rallied late, pulling within 3 runs before reliever Scott Durbin slammed the door by getting the last two batters to pop up to the right side to seal Woodson’s 10-7 victory.

Woodson completed its spring break competition with a game against Marshall.  Woodson jumped out to a big lead, posting four runs in the 2nd and 4th innings.  Six different Woodson hitters had base hits, including recent JV call-up Nate Moore who scored twice.  Dillon Brody drove in three on two hits.  Connor Krahulec dominated the Statesmen over the first four frames, before footing issues on the slick turf mound opened the door for a Marshall rally in the 5th.  Fortunately, reliever David Joslyn ended the threat and Ben Smallwood closed out the game for another 10-7 win.
