Career Connections

Langley students are invited to the 2022 Career Connections Event!  Students will learn from experienced professionals in careers in Business, Government, and Medical fields on Wednesday, April 13th; and Science, Tech, Communications and the Arts on Tuesday April, 19th. The event will take place on each of these days during the second half of Langley Links (from 10:20 to 11:14am). After attending the event, 40 students will be randomly selected to win $10 Starbucks gift cards! We need parents to participate by presenting about their careers.  Please email LHSCareerConnections@gmail.com with questions or to sign up.

AP exams scheduled on Eid al-Fitr

Change in O-Day

Eid al-Fitr will be observed by Muslims around the world this May 2nd and May 3rd. The date of Eid services/celebrations can shift due to the lunar calendar and can vary by community and country. At the time the FCPS calendar was developed, local Eid observances were expected to occur on May 3rd, but because local Eid observances shifted to May 2nd, the FCPS Employee Newsletter on February 8th announced a change in the Religious and Cultural Observance day in FCPS for Eid-al-Fitr from May 3rd to May 2nd, 2022.

AP Exam Schedule

After careful consideration, FCPS leadership decided to continue with the established AP exam schedule for May 2, 2022. Students registered for  AP exams on May 2nd (Chemistry, Spanish Literature, Japanese Language, US Government) will need to request late testing if they are unable to attend due to the Eid religious observance. May 3rd exams that were previously rescheduled for May 17th will remain on May 17th.

Requesting a late AP Exam due to May 2nd Eid Observance

Students who are unable to attend May 2nd AP exams (Chemistry, Spanish Literature, Japanese Language, or US Government) due to the Eid religious observance need to contact (Alex Mantel at armantel@fcps.edu), no later than April 22nd to request late testing. Late testing follows the College Board Late Testing Schedule. The dates and times for the May 2nd late testing are listed in the table below.

Volunteer Opportunity

Student Services would like to ask for any parent volunteers to help us in administering ap testing this spring. All parents will be paired with a knowledgeable member of our team and only be tasked with assisting in handing out and collecting materials and supervising the test. Test proctoring runs about 4 hours per test. Because of the vast amount of testing done in the building, every extra proctor we can use will be greatly appreciated. The only rule is that you can’t proctor a test your student is taking this year, otherwise we hope it might be a good experience to see how AP tests are administered, and to get to know some of our student services staff better as we look to a successful testing season for 2022, thank you!”

Legacy Tree

If you have a graduating senior or would like to have your student’s name on a leaf on the Legacy Tree, now's the time to order to ensure it will be up on the tree before the end of the school year.

Thanks to the 540 generous Langley families who've donated a leaf to make the renovation of the first two of Langley's three courtyards possible.

One more courtyard to landscape! Consider helping to "grow" the Legacy Tree and complete the courtyard renovation project by donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500). You choose the engraved message. The Legacy Tree is a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, coaches, and grads!

To order your leaf -- or leaves! -- visit the PTSA website.

Email any questions to chrissielavin1@gmail.com

LOST AND FOUND

Is your child missing a jacket, sweatshirt, lunchbox and/or water bottle? It may be in Langley’s very large lost & found collection. Please have your child stop by the lost and found bins located in the cafeteria. Items not collected by Friday, April 15 will be donated.
