Updates from Mason Crest Elementary School

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As we head into Spring Break we wanted to share a few updates from Mason Crest with you.

PTO Read A-Thon

books

Thus far, the PTO Read-A-Thon has been a great success. Most importantly, we have heard from many students about the great books that they have been reading as part of this fun event. Another amazing outcome has been the success of the fund raising aspect of the Read-A-Thon. Your generosity will go a long way in supporting the students’ instruction and enjoyment at Mason Crest. If you have not yet had a chance to visit your child’s Read-A-Thon page or would like to share it with your family and friends, you still have 2 Days left before the donation window closes at midnight on March 31, 2022. You may use the following link to search for you child's donation page. https://app.99pledges.com/fund/masoncrest/. If you have questions about accessing your child’s page or any other facet of the Read-A-Thon, please contact the Mason Crest PTO at masoncrestpto@gmail.com.

Early Release and Spring Break

reminder

Thursday, March 31, 2022 will be an early release day for all Fairfax County Public Schools students. For most students at Mason Crest, this means that dismissal will take place at 2:00p.m. Please note that while AM preschool classes will be meeting, PM preschool classes will not be held on this date. Additionally, Spring Break for our students begins on Friday, April 1 and ends on Sunday, April 10. During this period our school will be closed. We will resume our normal school routines again on Monday, April 11. We hope that you all enjoy a fun and enjoyable break with your families.

Parent Attendance Session

parent coffee

On the evening of Wednesday, April 20 at 5:00p.m., we will be hosting a parent information session on the topic of Attendance. Our staff will be sharing information about the importance of students being in school as well as the instructional and social costs of missed school days. We hope that you can join us to learn about this important topic and how we the home and school can work as partners to support your child and their attendance at school. For those that attend, the book fair will also be open until 6:30p.m. that night.

Parent Engagement Survey

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to take part in the FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey. This feedback is critical in determining how well FCPS is partnering with our families to support your child’s success. Please consider taking a few moments to participate in this important feedback gathering opportunity.

SOL Testing Calendar

We are quickly approaching our yearly Standards of Learning (SOL) testing season. As this is an important time for our students, we wanted to share the dates with you as early as possible. We ask that you please make every effort to have your child in attendance on the dates on which their grade level tests are scheduled. We will provide more information in the coming weeks, but you may contact either your child’s classroom teacher or Mr. Pratt (acpratt@fcps.edu) or Mr. Aiello (leaiello@fcps.edu) with any questions that you may have.
