A Friendly Reminder from the Health Room
Please ensure that your student’s health information is up-to-date! Student health information may be updated in WeCare. Parents / guardians can also complete and return a Health Information Form (HIF) to the Health Room. HIFs can be accessed HERE. Students who exhibit any of the following symptoms (below) will be sent home from the Health Room and may only return to school when (1) the student’s symptoms have improved; (2) they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours; (3) or if after having COVID-19, they have proof of a Negative COVID-19 test, or Healthcare Provider’s Note, or they have competed 10 days of isolation from the date of symptom onset.

Student Services Information Updates
Upcoming, After Spring Break:
-
Wellness Screening for Class of 2023: (April 12th) Goals include assessing symptoms of depression, suicide prevention, education and training in helping students reach out when experiencing symptoms of depression. Parent email is forthcoming in the next couple weeks, including the option to opt out for your student.
-
Wellness Week: (April 25-29) Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to obtain better physical and mental health outcomes; so instead of just surviving, you're thriving! Wellness week typically includes a counselor café, and several synchronous activities that promote mindfulness, thankfulness, friendship, and allows our counselors and our clinical team to check in with students.
-
Class of 2023 Post Secondary Planning Meeting: (May 4) is for rising seniors and their parents. Counselors discuss important "need to know" information for students as they approach their senior year. The meeting is followed up with an LS period where counselors visit English classes to convey same information.
-
SOL and EOC Testing: Across Virginia this spring, high school students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) and various End-of-Course (EOC) tests. Check THIS LINK for information regarding testing dates (SOL, EOC, AP Exams, etc.) for the remainder of the year.

The Rob Benton and Ron Tugwell Scholarship is Now Open!
The West Springfield High School Athletic Boosters awards scholarships to WSHS graduating seniors who participated in a Virginia High School League (VHSL) sanctioned event or FCPS supported club sport. Participation may include, but is not necessarily limited to athletes, performers, managers, trainers, statisticians, and videographers. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. The amount of the scholarship and the number awarded is determined by the annual budget.
As of 2022, the application is digital. We recommend that students prepare their answers in advance before completing the form.
2022 Questions:
- List your Athletic/Team participation while at West Springfield High School. Include participation at other high schools if you are a transfer student.
- What extracurricular activities, including community service, were you involved with during your high school years?
- From the lists above, what accomplishments are you most proud of? Why?
- 500 – 750 Word Essay answering: How has being a student athlete impacted your life, and how do you expect it to impact you in the future?
Application deadline: April 18, 2022. For more information and to apply online, go here.

Class of 2023 Parents!
The Class of 2022 All Night Grad Party Committee has been working together since spring of 2021 to fundraise and plan for our Seniors’ ANGP.
The current ANGP Committee is reaching out to parents and guardians of WSHS Class of 2023 to seek potential volunteers and to maintain continuity of effort.
Please consider volunteering. It’s a great way to meet other Class of 2023 parents while raising money for a great cause! We've created a signup for our first fundraising event this summer, at the Jiffy Lube Live Concert Series.
Jiffy Lube Live is the ANGP’s largest fundraiser. The Class of 2022 parents raised over 40% of the ANGP’s cost by volunteering at Jiffy Lube Live. The Class of 2023 needs YOUR help volunteering to work concessions at Jiffy Lube Live in order to make your student’s ANGP a success. The Summer 2023 Concert Season runs from May through October, however, volunteer counts are required by mid May so sign up early. This helps organizers gauge our ability to cover the concert season. At least 60-80 parent volunteers are needed. The more parent volunteers we have the more money we can raise. Volunteers must sign up separately so we can keep track of everyone’s contact information. Sign up HERE.
It may seem early, but the Class of 2023 All Night Graduation Party isn’t possible without our collective effort to volunteer and fundraise. Please email wshsangp@gmail.com with questions. Also check for updates on the Class of 2023 parent Facebook Page WSHSCLASSOF2023.
