MAJOR PRIDE!!

Band pic 1

What a wonderful way to celebrate “Music in our Schools Month”! The MVHS Sinfonia Orchestra (Intermediate Ensemble) scored a rating of “Excellent” from all judges for their stage performance and earned an incredible rating of “Superior” in the sight reading room. Our MVHS Chamber Orchestra (Advanced Ensemble) earned “Straight Is,” or, a rating of “Superior” from all judges both on stage and in the sight reading room. This achievement by Chamber Orchestra, coupled with the “Superior” ratings earned by our MVHS Symphonic Winds and the MVHS Madrigal Singers means that for the first time in a very long time, Mount Vernon High School has won the “Blue Ribbon Award” from the Virginia Music Educators Association. The distinction of a “Blue Ribbon School” is only presented to high school music programs in the Commonwealth whose top groups from all three disciplines (band, orchestra, and chorus) earn overall Superior Rankings at district concert assessment. Musical excellence abounds on Old Mount Vernon Road! We are so proud of our Majors Musicians and our outstanding teachers, Richard Bacz, Al Rodriguez, and Kevin Lackie.
