March Madness Band

On Wednesday evening our Band had their annual March Madness Concert! Thank you to Mr. Garcia and Ms. Taylor for organizing a wonderful evening and thank you to all the guest conductors including Ms. Millard!


PTSA Updates

Amazon Smiles

  • Shopping through Amazon Smiles continues to be a great passive way for our PTSA to earn funds!  Since most of us use Amazon on a weekly basis (if not daily!), the only effort it requires is to purchase through the Amazon Smiles link or even better, on your phone App.  Just choose the West Potomac High School PTSA for your charitable foundation and that's it!

Support WPHS Guitar at Pupusas Express this Tuesday, March 29th, ALL DAY!

  • 10% of your purchase will go to support WP Guitar.  Dine-In or Carryout.  Please show the flyer on your smartphone, or tell them you’re supporting the WP Guitar Program to ensure your order counts towards our fundraiser!  Live music by West Potomac Guitar Students during the dinner hours! West Potomac Prom Pop Up (previously known as Princess for a Night) is back! 

  • After a two-year hiatus, the West Potomac Prom Pop Up (previously known as Princess for a Night) is back! We will be offering a Prom Dress “shop” at WPHS - Saturday, April 16, Monday, April 18, and Thursday, April 21 after school. Additionally, on Tuesday, April 19, and Thursday, April 21, Prom Pop-Up will be available during in-school hours - Advisory period. Students will need to request a pass from their Advisory teacher before attending.
  • Prom Pop Up is open to all area high schoolers and provides free prom dresses, makeup and accessories to area students to help reduce the expenses that come with attending prom!  
  •  HOW YOU CAN HELP:  
    • Donate new, unused makeup or any new or used jewelry, bags, or shoes.  We will have collection boxes located inside Top It off on Fort Hunt Road, in the WPHS Front office, or contact Kendra Chambers for a pick-up.  Contact: kendrajanedc@aol.comor 703-966-2973
    •  Make a monetary donation that can be used to purchase makeup for the event.  Please email or text Kendra Chambers for information. 
    • Be on the lookout for a Sign-Up Genius; we will need donations of dress racks as well as volunteers to help with set up, take down, and of course, manning the shop while the students are there!
    • Help spread the word! Please spread the word to local high schoolers so they can plan to attend, as well as friends and neighbors who may like to donate!

DONATE A THEATRE TICKET TO A WEST POTOMAC STUDENT!

  • At Beyond the Page, we want to make performances more accessible to students, we need your help. By donating to fund student tickets, you are helping bring live theatre to students who wouldn’t normally be able to attend. Our goal is to fund 1200 tickets. 
  • Tickets are $10 each and will go to a WP student for one of our 6 PM performances of Be More Chill.

BEYOND THE PAGE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING MUSICAL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.  - BE MORE CHILL, the Musical

  • The hit Broadway musical Be More Chill is coming to WP this April. Inspired by the groundbreaking novel by Ned Vizzini, features a Tony-nominated score with original music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and book by Joe Tracz.
  • Performance Dates and Additional Info: @ WPHS - Kogelman Theatre.
    • Assigned seating for all shows is $10 for students and $15 for adults, available online at www.westpotomactheatre.org. Any remaining seats will be available at the door one hour before performances. 
    • April 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th, & 28th @ 6:00pm, April 23rd @ 1:00 PM, April 23rd & 29th @ 7:00pm

WPHS Dance -Sign-up now for Summer Dance Camps -- Spaces are Filling up Fast!

The West Potomac Dance Team is offering three weeks of summer dance camp at West Potomac for rising Kindergarten through 8th Grades.  Available weeks are June 20-24 and July 11-15.  The week of July 18-22 is currently closed with a wait list.  Check out the attached flyer for details!

Construction

On Tuesday we received a tour of the construction on campus. We are excited for the debut of our new tennis courts in just a few weeks! A reminder that the addition is on schedule to be ready this August!


Senior News/Class of 22 Updates:

  • May 26 - End of Year Party for Class of ’22, 5:00 – 9:00 PM at the Stadium Field
    • Music, Food, Mechanical Bulls, Four Way Basketball Shootout, 3 -Lane Bungee Run are just a few of the fun things being planned. A ticket will need to be purchased to attend this event.  Please look for additional info re: how to purchase tickets and to sign up to volunteer. We will need many parents!  
  • Graduation Tickets: Each Senior will receive 6 tickets for graduation. This number was determined based on the number of Seniors graduating and stadium capacity.
  • WP Class of 2022 Signs – Celebrate your Senior
    • The cost is $20.  To purchase: https://westpotomacptsa.memberhub.com/store 
    • Questions: Shauna Hamilton at shaunahamilton@mac.com. Pick-up details will be provided after your order is received.  Stakes are provided with the purchase of the signs to display in the yard or signs can be hung indoors using some command tape.
  • Class of '22 Facebook page: Created as an additional platform by a Senior parent to assist other Senior parents get connected to ask a question, provide an answer,  https://www.facebook.com/groups/wposeniors22/ 
  • Class of ’22 Senior School Dues:Senior dues are $50 - these funds will cover the Cap and Gown, Diploma Covers, and Senior Shirts and Activities. Payments can be made now through your students myschoolbucks.com acct. 

College and Career Center Updates:

  • NOVA: What’s Next: Reminder…. Seniors who plan on attending NOVA in the fall should bring their lunch and come to Career Center on Monday, 3/28 during their lunch period.  Our NOVA rep will be at WPHS during every lunch period to discuss the next steps seniors will need to take to attend NOVA in the fall.  (NOTE:  Students will not register for classes during this session.)  Seniors are required to have a completed NOVA application.  Pre-registration to attend the event is not required.
  • Scholarship Search Tips: On Tuesday, 3/29 seniors who are looking for scholarships can come to the Career Center.  A lunch & learn will be held during all lunch periods to review with seniors the scholarship search process, including where to look for scholarships and tips on ensuring students are submitting a competitive application.  Pre-registration to attend the event is not required.
  • Military Night: There is still time to register for Military Night at West Springfield High School (6100 Rolling Road Springfield, VA 22152) on Tuesday, March 29th from 6pm-8pm. FCPS Regions 3&4 will be hosting Representatives from Military Academies, Military Colleges, ROTC Programs, Recruiters, and Congressional Offices will be represented!   If you have any interest in serving in the military, this is the event you do not want to miss!   If you plan to attend, students must use their net account to fill out this quick Google Doc to register.
  • Regional College Fair:  Planning on visiting colleges during spring break?  George Mason will host the Northern VA Regional College Fair on Thursday, 4/7 from 6:30 pm– 8:30 pm.  Over 200 colleges from across the U.S. will be on site for this in person event.  This is a great local opportunity during spring break to meet with college representatives & learn what their school has to offer!  Visit  https://events.admissions.gmu.edu/nvrcf-2022/  for more information and to register for this event.
  • Save the Date:  April 14, 2022. - West Potomac Job Fair after school from 3 pm – 4:15            Do you have a student who is looking for a summer job?  On Thursday, April 14th, there will be a West Potomac Job Fair after school from 3 pm – 4:15 pm.  The event is designed to connect West Potomac students with local Alexandria businesses and companies looking for part-time or full-time employees.  Juniors & Senior West Potomac High School students are encouraged to attend.  More details in the coming weeks!!!

SAT/ACT TEST PREP:

  • Sophomores, now through May is a great time to take mocks and determine your test preference!
  • Juniors, mock tests are perfect for practicing for the real thing!
