Family Engagement Survey
Greetings Major Families,
The second Family Engagement Survey in the 2021-22 school year is now open and will close on April 3. Family engagement is a shared responsibility between home and school, and FCPS’s goal with the survey is to recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school communities. Results will be used to develop a plan to improve family and school partnerships throughout the division.
The survey addresses the following topics:
- Welcoming environment
- Communication
- Student success
- Advocacy
- Family and school partnerships
- Collaboration with the community to see if FCPS is meeting its goals at the school, region, and division levels
We know that when schools build strong partnerships with families, respond to their concerns, and honor their contributions, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, better social skills and behavior, and increased likelihood of high school graduation. You can access the survey in various languages at this link. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
We highly encourage you to complete the survey so that you make your voice heard around important topics impacting your child’s success. Please note that all responses will be confidential.
TAKE THE SURVEY!
Sincerely,
MVHS Administration
Tutor.com
We are excited to share a new resource that will soon be available to all MVHS students to support learning. All FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.
Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.
All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.
Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. Watch for an email soon that will include the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.
For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website. As always, please contact us if you have any questions.

Academic Advising Feedback Needed
Every year students engage in a process called academic advising where they meet with their school counselor to discuss and select classes for the upcoming school year. The purpose of those meetings is to allow students to work with their school counselor to develop an educational plan that is consistent with their aspirations, interests, strengths and values. As we prepare for the upcoming school year’s academic advising and course selection process, we are seeking feedback from families regarding this year’s. Students and Staff will be given the opportunity to complete similar surveys.
At this time we are asking you as parents/guardians to complete the following survey. The survey will be open from now until Monday, April 11th. Should you have any questions, please email Niasharee Frater, nsfrater@fcps.edu or Mary Jane Pimentel at mdpimentel@fcps.edu.
We thank you for your partnership and your feedback is appreciated.
