Aldrin Fundraising Update

Dear Aldrin Families,

I’m writing to share great news and give you a few updates.  As you may have heard, our Dance-A-Thon fundraiser is going VERY well!   We have already raised over $5,000 and earned a Pajama Day.  We are on our way to reaching our goal of $20,000 this year!!

As you may remember, last year we raised $17,000 and we have ordered six (6) water bottle filling stations, five outdoor tables and set aside $10,000 for the playground project.  Three of the six water bottle filling stations have been installed and the other three are expected this summer.   The five (5) outdoor tables will increase outdoor learning opportunities for our children.  The water filling stations, outdoor learning tables and the playground are part of the PTA plan to support school-wide wellness initiatives.

The most exciting part of the fundraising is THE PLAYGROUND!!   Due to the cost, our playground revitalization is a multi-year project.   As I shared above, the PTA has put aside $10,000 of the $17,000 we raised during the first year of fundraising.

Why a new playground?  The new playground equipment will replace the nearly 30-year-old, original playground structure that is starting to show a great amount of wear and tear.   We investigated replacing some pieces of the current playground.  It was going to cost as much to replace a few areas as it would to add new, more up-to-date pieces of equipment.    We will include new swings (with accommodations for students with disabilities), a new cosmic play warp, a crossover adventure series, a vertical wave, a post mount drum, a chime banner, an ADA Bell Panel, an infinity loop, a super dome, and a versa rock-climbing wall.   We are also going to add some fencing for increased safety, along with two new benches.  The new play area will be safer and have more areas accessible to all students.

We are thrilled that Fairfax County Public Schools will be overseeing the project and has agreed to pay for several parts of the new additions and the upgrades.  We hope you are as excited about our new playground, water filling stations, and the new opportunities for outdoor learning as we are.  Below you will find a few pictures of the new equipment.

Thank you,
