1. Message from Dr. Floyd
Good afternoon Woodson Families:
Only 4 days until students are released for spring break! While this break is not aligned with other counties this year, I do believe the timing is almost perfect. Students and staff have worked tirelessly this quarter and are ready for a break.
Please note Thursday is not only the last day of the quarter (check SIS for grading updates) but it is also the last day to change your course requests for next year. Students should contact their counselor if they want to change a course request by Thursday, March 31st.
I need to bring to your attention the Orbeez challenge, a social media craze where kids are using a toy gun to shoot gel or water based pellets at people. Two issues: first, these pellets are dangerous, can and have blinded and injured people. Second, these toy guns look like real guns; regardless of their florescent color. Having these on school grounds is an SR&R violation. Using these on school grounds is not only dangerous but also another SR&R violation. Here is an article if you would like further information.
Please help us keep all our children safe on and off school grounds. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend and a fantastic finish to March 2022!
Dr. Floyd Principal
2. Senior Panoramic Photo on Monday, March 28th
Seniors! Please dress warmly for the senior panoramic photo on Monday. After checking attending Learning Seminar (3rd P), students will be dismissed by the PA system around 10:30am for the stadium.
The PTSO will be providing donuts and will share more information about Cav Cruise, the All Night Grad Party.
3. Early Release on Thursday, March 31st and Student Holiday on Friday, April 1st
As a reminder, students will be dismissed two hours early on Thursday, March 31, the last day of the third quarter. Friday, April 1, is a teacher workday and a holiday for students. April 4-8 is spring break. Schools and school offices will be closed. See the complete 2021-22 school year calendar.
Congressman Gerry Connolly visited Woodson's Senior Class during Learning Seminar on Tuesday.
4. Parking Enforcement on West side of Whitacre Road
Fairfax County is enforcing all No Parking Signs on Whitacre Rd. In particular on the West side of Whitacre Rd which is the side that has private residences. That side of the road has several District 22 Permit Only signs.
Please do not park there or you may receive a ticket from Fairfax County.
5. Spring Blood Drive
Woodson's Key Club Spring blood drive is on Friday, April 15th in Cav Hall.
Parents, students, teachers, and everyone in the Woodson community is welcome to donate. For more information and to sign up, please contact Marie Phu at mphu@fcps.edu.
Students are required to be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 110lbs. All students are also required to have a parental consent form signed. Inova needs 250 units a day, just for regular needs in this area, so we are hoping to supply a large amount of those units! The Attendance Office will be monitoring student attendance.

14. FanQuest Rescheduled!
FanQuest has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 30th at Woodson HS. Come out and watch Woodson’s Special Olympics Unified Basketball team play Robinson Secondary School!
Unified is a model of Special Olympics where student athletes with disabilities and their same-aged peers play alongside one another on one unified team. This differs from Special Olympics because that model only has athletes with disabilities. With the support from our Woodson Buddies and Partnership class, Woodson HS has a strong Unified team and we participate in Soccer, Basketball and Track and Field. FanQuest is the culminating event for both Special Olympics and Unified Basketball.
Trees are in bloom in the Woodson Courtyards.

19. How do I check out my student from school?
Please let the Attendance Office know if you need your student to leave school early. You can notify Attendance 3 different ways:
- Submit the online attendance form and have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch. This form must be submitted at least 30 minutes before check-out time.
- Student brings a note to the Attendance Office before 9:45am. The student will be issued a pink pass to leave class at the appointed time. The note must include the following - student name, date and time of when student is leaving, and reason for early check-out, student ID, parent signature and contact number.
- Call the attendance line, 703-503-4800 and select Option 3. After leaving a message, please have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch.
At the time of dismissal, your son/daughter will bring the pink check-out pass back to the Attendance Office for verification before meeting you outside.
If returning to school that same day, students must check in at the Attendance office before going back to class, even if it is between classes.
If one of the options above is not followed, we cannot guarantee a speedy checkout, so please make sure you notify the attendance office prior to picking up your son/daughter to ensure you make your appointment or commitment on time.
Due to staff responsibilities at the end of the day, we are not able to honor unannounced early dismissals within 15 minutes of school dismissal.
For full details on Attendance Procedures, please visit the Attendance page on the Woodson website.
