This past week, our Kindergarten Lions were outstanding during their musical showcase. Many thanks to Molly Hill and Theresa Perez, our music teachers, for preparing our students for this performance. Click below to view the video of this performance.

Student Device Expectations

LTES students are collaborators and communicators. And, we've noticed an increased number of Lions creating, collaborating on, and sharing slide decks with content not related to school, eating near computers, searching for non-school topics, and playing/downloading games or applications not related to school. Please help us and remind your Lion to follow the expectations as outlined in the LTES Student Device Contract (see below).

As an additional support for students, LTES staff will increase the number of times we check student's browsers to ensure they are using their devices for assigned and school-related topics. Classroom teachers will work with students needing additional reminders to follow our technology expectations  and will communicate with families regarding the next steps. Next steps can include a short-term loss of computer privileges.

Thank you for supporting us in ensuring a safe learning environment for all students by reinforcing these digital citizenship expectations at home!

At-Home Tutoring Support Coming Soon

FCPS will provide all students with unlimited access to an online tutoring support service beginning in April. This service will be provided through Tutor.com at no cost to you. We are excited about this opportunity for students to receive at-home support if needed.

Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.

All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.

Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. Watch for an email soon that will include the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.

For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website. As always, please contact us if you have any questions.

Ukraine News Reports

News reports of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia have caused fear and anxiety for many families in our community for many different reasons. Some are worried about friends and family living overseas, or the potential of a loved one who serves our country being sent overseas. Others fear escalation that could impact the safety of nearby countries and the global economy.

News coverage can also be triggering for families who have experienced violence here at home or war in other parts of the world. Many of our own FCPS families have left countries in conflict, fleeing war and violence, often leaving loved ones behind in the process of seeking safety. This comes at a time when our country is still recovering from a pandemic that has disrupted our daily lives for two years.

We are here to be a safe space for our children and to provide support for families who are struggling. Thank you for being a part of our school community and know that we are here to support your family. If support is needed, please reach out to our school counselors, Mrs. Habermeyer, Mr. Hunter, or Ms. Robinson at 703-227-5400.
