Rock Your Socks on Monday

Monday, March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day and time to rock your socks!

The date 3/21 is significant as it was selected to represent the trisomy of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.  Fun, crazy socks have become symbolic of Down Syndrome awareness. The sock initiative was created to get people talking and asking questions about Down Syndrome. There are many organizations today that create crazy socks to raise money and awareness for Down Syndrome. Crazy socks made by our special education students will be on display in the lobby to raise awareness for Down Syndrome!

testing

NNAT Testing for 1st Graders

In an effort to obtain additional information about our 1st grade students, the online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered  on the morning of Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

It is important that students attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

The NNAT3 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. Students are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The NNAT3 is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.

Family Engagement Survey

survey

Last Sunday you received an email  with information on completing the Family Engagement Survey. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

Group and Candid Photos

On March 22, club photos and candid pictures for the yearbook will be taken. Club photos are for students in SCA, patrols, news crew, etc.

Lees Corner's Mask Plan for upcoming Class and Class Pictures

Club and candid pictures are group pictures. Lees Corner respects a parent’s right to choose, thus these pictures will be taken as mask optional.

Please communicate with your child whether or not you would like them to wear a mask for the picture.

Fun Fit Fridays (F3) Starting Soon!

F3

We are excited to invite you and your child(ren) to our run/walk program, Fun Fit Fridays (or F3).  Students in all grade levels, K-6, are welcome to participate, as well as parents and teachers!

Students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to meet on the Lees Corner track to run/walk laps on Friday mornings from 8:10-8:35 AM beginning on Friday, April 15 and running through Friday, June 3. If a student is not running/walking in the program, he or she should not arrive at school earlier than 8:35 AM

Fun Fit Fridays is a token reward program. Each student-participant is issued a running card to keep track of his or her laps and total miles over the course of the year.  Students run/walk as many laps as possible in the 25-minute time period every Friday morning. After a student completes one lap around the track, an adult scans the student’s card. Each completed running card totals 30 laps, or 5 miles. Students receive a toe token upon completion of 5 miles. After 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles, students receive a number token representing the miles completed.

This is an excellent opportunity for your son or daughter to meet new friends, enjoy the benefits of running/walking, and develop an appreciation for fitness. We hope this program builds self-confidence and improves fitness levels among our students and within the community. Everyone is welcome to join us!

If your child will participate in F3, please fill out this form and return it to your child's teacher by Thursday, March 31st
