Did You Know...

This past weekend a West Point Cadet died of a fentanyl overdose while on spring break. Here is the story.

Teens and young adults who are experimenting/using drugs could be getting something laced with fentanyl without their knowledge.

Every high school in FCPS has a substance abuse prevention specialist. Kelly Rankin (Krankin@fcps.edu) is assigned to Langley. Kelly Rankin is available if you are not sure how to talk to you child about the dangers of all drugs especially the increased of fentanyl deaths. It only takes a small about of fentanyl to cause an overdose.

Join Langley's Psychologist and Social worker for a discussion about some of the challenges of parenting today. In anticipation of best-selling author Julie Lythcott-Haims' visit to McLean in April to present the talk "Throw out the Checklisted Childhood: Tips and Strategies for Raising Successful Kids," the PTSA is hosting a Langley parent book talk on Julie's most-acclaimed book, How to Raise an Adult, on Mar 23, 11 am, in the Lecture Hall. No worries if you haven't read the book--all are welcome to join in! School Psychologist Anna Davis and School Social Worker Catherine Kennedy will facilitate the discussion and share their thoughts on the aspects of the book that are especially relevant to Langley families. Click here to purchase the book from Amazon.

Student Representative to the School Board

Each year, FCPS students can apply for the position of the student representative to the School Board. The student rep is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of FCPS students.

Students currently in grades 9-11 are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Applications are due by Wed, Mar 23. Click here for more information.

AP exams scheduled on Eid al-Fitr

Change in O-Day

Eid al-Fitr will be observed by Muslims around the world this May 2nd and May 3rd. The date of Eid services/celebrations can shift due to the lunar calendar and can vary by community and country. At the time the FCPS calendar was developed, local Eid observances were expected to occur on May 3rd, but because local Eid observances shifted to May 2nd, the FCPS Employee Newsletter on February 8th announced a change in the Religious and Cultural Observance day in FCPS for Eid-al-Fitr from May 3rd to May 2nd, 2022.

AP Exam Schedule

After careful consideration, FCPS leadership decided to continue with the established AP exam schedule for May 2, 2022. Students registered for  AP exams on May 2nd (Chemistry, Spanish Literature, Japanese Language, US Government) will need to request late testing if they are unable to attend due to the Eid religious observance. May 3rd exams that were previously rescheduled for May 17th will remain on May 17th.

Requesting a late AP Exam due to May 2nd Eid Observance

Students who are unable to attend May 2nd AP exams (Chemistry, Spanish Literature, Japanese Language, or US Government) due to the Eid religious observance need to contact (Alex Mantel at armantel@fcps.edu), no later than April 22nd to request late testing. Late testing follows the College Board Late Testing Schedule. The dates and times for the May 2nd late testing are listed in the table below.
