WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

egg drop

Will they or won't they break? Second grade students watch as Mr. Gray drops eggs attached to balloons as part of a engineering-based STEAM experiment.

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

Our outdoor eating has been going well. This week we also made a shift to the recess format. Grade levels will no longer cohort during recess, meaning students will be able to play across classrooms when there is outdoor recess.  We continue to be optimistic about our low COVID numbers. FCPS is continuing to monitor the COVID numbers to determine if other shifts in social distancing will occur.

As we move into spring, our Student Council Association (SCA) plans to host a school cleanup event on Earth Day, Friday, April 22 at 4:15 (weather dependent). Students would need to go home and return to school with a family member in order to participate. The PTA also plans to host an outdoor Movie Night on April 22. More information to come on both of these events.

We are looking forward to seeing many new faces at the Kindergarten Open House on March 31.  Our virtual Kindergarten Orientation will take place the evening before, March 30 at 6:00 pm.  Please see below for additional information about both of these events.

Kindergarten Orientation for SY 2022-2023

We are excited to be welcoming a whole new group of students to Wakefield Forest this fall. We are hosting a virtual orientation, where we will review the program, share about WFES and answer questions. This orientation will be recorded and posted to the school website afterward. Additionally, we will host an in-person Kindergarten Open House. This will be an opportunity for families to drop off copies of registration materials, tour the school, and meet our kindergarten staff. Early Registration is key to WFES being fully staffed for the fall.

March 30 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM:          Virtual Kindergarten Orientation

Please join us here: https://myfcpsk12.zoom.us/j/99594850876 (Please enter you first and last name so we know to give you access to the meeting.)

March 31 from  2:15 – 3:30 PM:          In-Person Kindergarten Open House (Overflow parking will be available at St. Matthews Church)

Spread the word, please!

As we move toward the last quarter of the school year, we ask you to be our community ambassadors and let your new or existing neighbors know that early registration for school is hugely important for us to be fully staffed for the start of school. Families can let us know they are joining our school by completing this link. https://wakefieldforestes.fcps.edu/student-services/student-registration

Tutor.com

All FCPS families will receive an Online Tutoring Services Notice and Opt-Out Information email on March 22. Families will be able to submit opt-out request(s) via ParentVUE. An opt out letter will also be in Thursday folders this week.

Division-wide access to Tutor.com online tutoring services provides “just in time” support to any student enrolled in FCPS. Students have 24/7 on demand, online access to live tutors in English, Spanish or Vietnamese to assist across all grade levels and most subjects.

Students can connect online any time, any place, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring services are available before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends.  Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice and/or text chat. Tutoring will be accessed online through a link in Schoology.
