Hello KJMS Families,

It felt a lot more like spring this week! It seems like the message we shared with families last week about the dress code was effective, the Admin Team had very few students who needed redirection this week, we appreciate the partnership! Speaking of partnership, it was wonderful to see parents logging into our team parent coffees. We hope that parents who attended felt more connected to staff at school after attending. We know that through partnership our students can find success! Our next goal is helping our students get to class on time. Please remind your student when they hear passing music they should be in class before the music is over. You can also ask your student what music they hear during passing time between classes.  Our school DJ has been spinning the 70s and 80s lately. If you have a song suggestion, please share it with your student and they can pass it along to us!

We hope you enjoy the first official day of spring this weekend,

Your partners,

The KJMS Admin Team

Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey is coming to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

Multilingual Parent Podcasts: Making the Transition to Middle School

En Pocas Palabras graphic

Making the move from elementary school to middle school can be both an exciting and unsettling time for a parent and student. In this week’s podcast, hear ways to ease the transition by:

  • Understanding the developmental changes in your child.
  • Getting to know middle school culture.
  • Encouraging independence, but remaining available.
  • Offering emotional support to your child.
  • Reiterating your family values and expectations.
  • Staying involved in your child’s school.

This podcast’s infomercial is about summer camps. It’s not too early to start thinking about summer fun. The FCPS Tech Adventure Camp and the Career and Technical Education Camp are taking registrations for summer 2022.
