Back to School Night
Giving Back at McLean High School
Our students truly care about our school and community. This school year, our students have shown this care for others by holding a variety of collection drives.
PowerBars for Ukraine
Many McLean High School students have voiced their concern about the war in Ukraine. As a result we have decided to collect PowerBars to send there. Please drop off your PowerBars in the marked boxes in the Main Office.

MHS Book Drive - March
In honor of National Reading Month, we will be hosting a book drive to donate books to elementary and middle schools in our pyramid. Bins will be placed in the main office so be sure to drop off your gently used books!
|
GLC Menstrual Product Drive
The McLean Girls' Leadership Committee is hosting a menstrual product drive throughout the month of March. Many women and girls have trouble affording food and basic necessities. Especially now during the pandemic, expensive yet necessary menstrual products can take a toll on families living paycheck to paycheck. Drop off your items in the marked boxes in front of the Main Office

McDance-A-Thon
McDance-A-Thon
McDance-a-Thon is a student-led fundraising club that raises money for Children’s National Hospital. In 2019 McDance-a-Thon successfully raised $55,726.44, and in 2020 they surpassed that with $61,986.99! Every year the biggest event the club has is our 7-hour dance, where we dance, play games, push fundraising, and then at the end of the night reveal how much money we have raised throughout the year. Check out the video below, showcasing the energy and environment from previous dances. https://youtu.be/CNIvZ_6JMVg
This year we are so excited to get back to an in-person dance!
McDance-a-Thon will be hosting our 7-hour dance in the main gym at McLean High School on Saturday, March 26th from 4:00 - 11:00 PM. We will provide food and are so excited to also have a DJ!
Because our club's message surrounds children's health, masks will be required at the dance but there are outdoor locations where students will be able to take them off.

Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply, and they do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC). Applications are due March 23, 2022. The application and related details can be found at Student Representative to the School Board.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving - Virtual
McLean High School will be offering Partners for Safe Teen Driving (PSTD) seminars throughout the school year. All students enrolled in classroom driver education must attend one 90-minute PSTD presentation. The presentation is connected to classroom instruction and must be completed in addition to successful completion of classroom instruction in order for a student to receive a DEC-District 8 (pink) card.
McLean High School’s last date for the 2021-2022 calendar year is:
April 18
To register for the April 18 PSTD seminar, students can register with a parent or legal guardian here. To access the registration form, students must be logged into their fcpsschools.net account.
All seminars will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM virtually via Schoology Zoom. Registrants will receive an email with the PSTD ZOOM Meeting Link prior to the meeting. We encourage registrants to enter the meeting ten minutes prior to the meeting to avoid technical issues. Attendees who arrive late will NOT BE allowed entry and WILL NOT earn credit for attending. Students and a minimum of one of their parent/guardian(s) must attend a presentation during the calendar year in which the student is enrolled in 10th grade Health and PE. While it is recommended that the PSTD seminar requirement be satisfied during the quarter in which the student is taking classroom driver education, students are welcome to attend any quarter. Important: Students who successfully complete their classroom driver education quarter but have not satisfied the PSTD requirement will have earned an Incomplete for the class grade until the requirement is met.
This program is only available to FCPS students enrolled in grade 10 health and physical education at no charge. Students who are completing classroom instruction through a commercial driving school, are home schooled, are enrolled in another school division, or are FCPS students in grade 11 or 12 must register to attend the 90-minute PSTD seminar through FCPS Adult and Community Education (aceclasses.fcps.edu); a $30 fee will apply. Students enrolled in grade 10 health and physical education do not have to register.
