Dear Woodburn Families,

We had an incredible week celebrating our community's diversity during our Multicultural Week. The building was buzzing with energy and excitement every day with Wildcat spirit.

We look forward to seeing you at our PTA Movie Night tonight. Be sure to stop by the cafeteria for some interactive activities to continue our Multicultural Week celebration before the movie.

Partners in Print

The Literacy Committee is excited about an upcoming event: Partners in Print. The goal of Partners in Print is to support student literacy by building bridges with families and maintain our strong home-school partnerships. This year, we’ll be riding a school bus around our families’ neighborhoods, making a few stops, and providing books for students to take home. Students will be able to enjoy these books over spring break.

The Literacy Committee will share more details as the date approaches.

When: March 31st. The bus will leave Woodburn at 3:15 PM and will return around 4:30 PM.  Times below are approximate.

Tutor.com

We are excited to share a new resource that will soon be available to all Woodburn students to support learning. All FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.

Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.

More information will be shared in a separate email.

Your Feedback is Important

This spring all Woodburn parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

Today is the final day to complete the questionnaire. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

FCPS Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey is coming to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

Health & Safety Reminders

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.

Monitoring Your Child's Health

Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day.  This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.

Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.

Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine

FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
