Dear Beech Tree Families:

On Thursday evening, we had our PTA meeting and our PTA president, Megan Laboy shared the following:

Tuesday, March 15th we will have an all day PTA Restaurant Day at the Dogfish Head Tavern at 7 Corners: 220 Leesburg Pike. Falls Church, VA 22044. (703) 534-3342. Please stop by or order online for carry out to support our PTA.

Wednesday, March 16th, a zoomlink will be shared for parents to join Ms. Laboy for more information about the PTA Fun Fair scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd from 10am to 2p. We need each of you to volunteer. Your help may come in a variety of ways, big and small. Please join the meeting to learn more about how you can help.

 

Last night, we moved our clocks forward by one hour. To support us all as we crawl out of bed in the dark on Monday, we have declared it a PAJAMA DAY! Staff and students may wear fun, comfy, and appropriate pajamas to school and of course, students may bring a stuffed animal with them, if they would like. We have two school events coming up this month that I hope you will attend. On Thursday, March 24th, Ms. Lexi Allman, our literacy coach, will host a virtual Partners In Print Night for our PreK through 2nd grade parents at 6:30pm. This will be a fun evening where Ms. Allman, and friends will read aloud to students and share ideas with parents for building literacy in fun and engaging ways at home. Ms. Allman found a book for me to read called, “Tortillas are Round.” That makes me hungry, so I should probably plan to eat dinner before the event!

 

On Saturday, March 26th, Ms. Tina Britton, our librarian, will host a Book Fair in the cafeteria from 10am to 2pm. Please come out to support her the way you supported our PTA at their Book Fair in the Fall. The proceeds from this Book Fair allow Ms. Britton to order more books for our library, as well as other media that will continue to support our students in their learning. Remember to invite friends to the Book Fair, too!

 

On Thursday, March 31st, there is a 2 hour Early Dismissal, so our Kindergarten Team and Colleagues, will be hosting an in person Kindergarten Orientation in the cafeteria at 2:30pm. Rising Kinders are invited to come so they may go their future classrooms and have some fun!

In the past Principal Messages, I shared that students would have access to online intervention this summer. This year, I was able to purchase an online Reading and Math intervention resource that is available to all of our 1st through 5th graders. (Unfortunately, Kinders do not have access to this, so we will share other online opportunities with you in the future.) IReady is adapted to each student’s needs based on their division-wide online iReady assessments. Your child may access this intervention at anytime and it will also be available to students over the summer break, so you may access it even while you travel. It can be found as an icon on the desktop of your student’s school laptop. Health & Safety Procedures:

Visitors in the Building

Beech Tree visitors may enter by appointment only, with limited access to the building. All must have an ID, such a driver’s license or passport, and will be asked to respond to a Health Screening Questionnaire. Parents may drop off and pick up materials, as needed, by ringing the doorbell and communicating with office staff. Office staff will then bring the materials to you at the door or receive the materials from you at the door.

 

Water Fountain Use

Students should bring their own water bottle for use during the day. School staff will supervise the refilling of  water bottles, as necessary. Water fountains should not be used as usual. Water fountains can be used to refill water bottles when practical, but students and staff should not drink directly from any water fountains or faucets, which could contribute to illness transmission; individual water bottles should be used instead. 

 

Care Rooms

    • The predetermined care room is a designated location and must be separate from the health room. It may be necessary for schools to identify a second care room due to the requirement for physical distancing and room capacity.
    • A designated staff member must be assigned to supervise students while in the predetermined care room should the need arise. The staff member will be provided with a gown or lab coat, gloves, and a face shield as appropriate. Staff will need to be available at various times throughout the day to supervise any student exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 while awaiting pick up by the parent or guardian.
