Dear Fairhill Families-

We are off to a great start this week here at Fairhill! It’s hard to believe that Spring Break is less than three weeks away!  These next weeks are critical for student learning because they are uninterrupted and consistent. We always see an abundance of growth in our students between our last snow day and Spring Break and this year is no different.

We hope to see you all at our Garden Clean-Up Day on March 26th from 10 AM - 2 PM. The Fairhill PTA will be sending out a flier soon. It will be a great day to have our Fairhill Tigers involved in the beautification of their school.

Have a great week.

Ted & Courtney

FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form

Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!

This spring all Fairhill ES parents/guardians were contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

FCPS Survey of Preschool Children

kinder

If you have a preschool-aged child who is eligible for kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year, please use this link https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/it112.pdf to access the form. Return completed forms no later than March 31, 2021.

If you know of any children in your neighborhood who also have rising kindergartners, please share this information or ask them to reach out to Amy Spector at 703-208-8100 or alspector@fcps.edu.

Virginia law, Section 22.1-254 requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must enroll in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year. If your child turns five on or before 09/30/2022 and you do not wish to enroll him/her in kindergarten, please let us know in writing.

The form can be submitted to Amy Spector via email at alspector@fcps.edu or by dropping it off at the school.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us identify school-age children.

Rising Kindergarten Registration/Orientation

Looking to register your kindergarten student at Fairhill ES for 2022-23? Will they turn five years old on or before September 30, 2022?

We will be hosting an in person Kindergarten Orientation at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 31st.   There will also be an FCPS bus to familiarize upcoming students with a school bus!  They will take a "field trip" around our bus loop!

Please begin the registration process by clicking this link and submitting the forms.  We also have paper copies available if you choose.  You can call the Fairhill Office and set up a time to come pick up a packet.  Please contact  Amy Spector, alspector@fcps.edu with any questions.  Click here for more information on the FCPS new student registration process.

Join the PTA!

pta

As we head back to school in person, it is the perfect time to bring our Fairhill community back together.  One of the best ways to feel connected to our teachers, staff and families is to join the PTA.  You can become a member by accessing this link

PTA directory

Fairhill Family Directory

The PTA is excited to launch our digital school directory.  Those of you who have been at Fairhill for a few years may remember the A to Z Connect Directory.  It is a great way to stay in touch with other Fairhill families and plan birthday parties and playdates.

The directory can be accessed from the Membership Toolkit Mobile App or from a browser.

The directory is available to all families who did not opt out.

Logging In and Creating an Account

Before you can use the directory, you need to set up your account. To set up your account, you must go through a browser.  Once the account is established, you can use the mobile app for your searches.  The URL for the Fairhill A to Z directory can be found HERE

  • Click the “Register/Login” button on your home page.
  • Use the email address that you have on file with the Fairhill office and select a password.
  • Watch for an email that will ask you to verify your email address.
  • Once you have verified your email address, you need to finish setting up your contact information for the database. Complete the parent & student forms and the directory & publish preferences.

Please note, your email address is the only information that is required to access the directory.  You do not need to provide your home address or phone number.  When you are asked to verify your account information, you are welcome to add your address and/or phone number and can select to have this information displayed through the publish preferences page.  The default is for only your email address to be displayed.

Opportunities to contribute to the Fairhill Community PTA

Are you interested in working with the PTA but don't know how to begin?  As we head into the spring, the PTA has several fun ways for parents to get involved supporting our school and community.

Website Coordinator

We are in need of a parent who can keep our PTA website up to date.  Experience with WordPress would be helpful.

Fairhill Grounds Clean Up

We are in the planning phase of a Fairhill grounds clean up community event.  We would like to pick up trash, weed the flower beds and possibly plant some new bushes or flowers.  If you have gardening skills to lend or are interested in helping lead the event, we will happily include you in our planning sessions.

Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week is the first week of May and we are in need of volunteers to join our committee.  The committee will come up with ideas for showering the staff with appreciation during the week (for example lunches, surprises in staff mailboxes, chocolate fountain in the staff lounge, etc), create signup genius pages for donations and volunteers (if needed) and help ensure that the staff feel our appreciation.  We are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of people take care of our kids each day.  If you would like to help show them our gratitude, please join this committee.

Family Fun Day

We haven't been able to host our family fun day in 2 years due to covid so we are very excited to bring back the tradition!  In June, the PTA will host a family fun day.  This is an outdoor (weather permitting) carnival type event for the Fairhill community.  We usually have food trucks, bouncy/inflatable games, a staff dunk tank, sports drills with Falls Church High School and more.  The committee will design the event (new ideas are welcome!), book food trucks and take shifts managing the event.  The Family Fun Day is a wonderful community building experience to wrap up the school year. Please consider donating your time and ideas to this celebration!

If any or all of these volunteer opportunities appeal to you, please contact president@fairhillpta.org.
