What's Happening at Mount Eagle

March 11, 2022

We Need Your Input!

There are two surveys for Mount Eagle families:

  • Performance questionnaire for Ms. Consolla
  • Family engagement survey for all families in FCPS

The survey for Ms. Consolla was sent to families with an email link this past week. This is part of her job evaluation and offers parents an opportunity to provide anonymous feedback about various topics related to our school. It is open through next Friday, March 18. Thank you for your feedback!

The Family Engagement survey will be sent to all families in FCPS on Sunday, March 13. Again, this can be accessed through an email link and is an opportunity for you to provide feedback about how we can work better together. It is available in 8 languages. Again, we thank you for your feedback. It helps us reflect on our work and make changes for a better Mount Eagle.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, March 23 6:30pm on Zoom to learn about ways to keep your child safe around social media, apps & technology. Our technology teacher, Ms. Lucas will share about the different apps and how parents can support their child as they navigate social media.

Spring Pictures & Yearbook Orders

This month there will be two different opportunities regarding school pictures.

Yearbook orders: An order form already went home in last week's Thursday Folder. If you would like to order a yearbook, the cost is $16 and is due by Thursday, March 31. There are a limited number of yearbooks we are ordering and will take orders as we receive them. If we reach the limit and you are not able to place the order, your money would be returned. Place your order now if you would like one.

School Pictures: The photographer will be at Mount Eagle on Friday, March 25. All students will have their photo taken with their class. The order form for school pictures went home this week. Please look for that envelope and send it in with your child or drop it in the front office if you would like to purchase photos.

We Need Tissues

Allergy season is upon us, and we are in short supply of tissues. If you can donate a box or two of tissues, we would be very grateful. We've set up a box in the front lobby. Thank you!

Supporting Your Child With Organizing

Executive functioning refers to the skills we all use every day to learn, work, and manage daily life. Trouble with executive function can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions, among other things.

If your child seems to struggle with these skills, Children’s National Hospital has created a playlist of 3-5 minute videos about how to support your children with executive functioning problems.

Topics include: understanding executive functioning, the difference between can’t and won’t, preventing overload, expecting and managing disappointment, and more!

Kindergarten Registration for Next Year

We are starting to make preparations for the 2022-23 academic year. Children who will be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2022 are eligible to attend kindergarten next fall. If you have a child who will attend kindergarten at Mount Eagle next school year, please complete this survey  and return it to the school via email to our Ms. Toni Collins, our Student Information Assistant at tlcollins2@fcps.edu . When you open the link for the surveys, you can scroll down to find your home language.

Please spread the word to your neighbors who don’t already have a child at Mount Eagle. Feel free to pass this form along, or have neighbors with rising kindergarteners call the office at 703-721-2100 to be added to our kindergarten mailing list. Registration information will be provided to all families who complete and return this survey. If preferred, you may request a mailed packet of registration forms by calling the office or emailing our registrar.

A child’s record of immunization, physical examination (within 12 months prior to entering kindergarten), proof of residency, parent photo identification, and original birth certificate must be submitted when registering the child.  For more information regarding kindergarten registration, you may visit the Fairfax County Public Schools’ website at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/general-registration-requirements

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than March 31, 2022.

Our annual Kindergarten Orientation will be scheduled soon and the event will be announced though this newsletter and on the school website.
