Dear Columbia ES families:
It has been another exciting week at CES! We are thrilled to have hosted our first Pastries with Parents event this morning and are looking forward to more community engagement activities this spring!
As we approach SOL testing season after spring break, I'm pleased to share that FCPS has acquired a contract with Tutor.com to provide one-to-one tutoring for student learning. See below for details if you are interested in supporting your child's learning through this new initiative.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the weather!
Take care,
Mike Astudillo

Tutoring for all FCPS students
A new resource will soon be available to all Columbia ES students to support learning. Students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.
Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.
All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.
Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. Watch for an email soon that will include the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.
For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website or click on the link below for a short video:

Congratulations to Jason Kain on being recognized as a March 2022 FCPS CARES recipient!
Below is the write up submitted by a Columbia ES parent.
Mr. Kain ALWAYS makes PE fun! My son looks forward to his class every week and it's the first thing he tells me about when he comes home that day. Even when he was virtual last year, PE was still a highlight. I will always be impressed at how creative Mr. Kain was during such a challenging time. It's clear that he always puts a lot of work into his class. I hope he knows it's appreciated. My son loves it!
