March is Music in our Schools Month

In Ms. Chaapel's music class, some of the kids brought in their instruments.  They looked at each instrument’s vibrations online and were able to see and hear the difference of the wavelengths of the clarinet, viola, and cello.  It was a fascinating combination of music and computers!

PTA Meeting and Principal Coffee - March 30, 2022 at 6:30 PM

Did you hear?  The school is having an awesome Math and Literacy open house on Thursday 3/24!  To make sure we all have time to attend, we're moving the March PTA meeting to Wednesday 3/30 at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.  We'll be meeting with a representative from FCPS Food & Nutrition services to see how we can help support good nutrition and fight food insecurity for students at HES.  Please plan to join us for this important conversation.

HES Is Turning 60!

Herndon Elementary is turning 60 and we're ready to celebrate!  Save the date for Sunday, April 24th to join us!

JOIN THE PTA Executive Board

Many of our current PTA Board members will be moving on from their terms next year.  We're looking for new volunteers to fill out the 5-person Executive Board.  The only requirement is that you have a desire to help fulfill our mission to positively impact the lives of all children and families at Herndon Elementary but if you have some leadership or technical skills that would be a plus!

Please reach out to out-going President, Sara Murphy, at herndonPTApresident@gmail.com for more information or to put your name on the May ballot.

Fabric Wreath

HES Art Teacher needs Fabrics

Hello, HES community!

In Art, 5th grade is exploring global issues. Since the beginning of the school year, we have been examining the issue of clothing waste, as well as reusing, recycling and repurposing clothing and fabric. We have recently started a community project of repurposing fabric to create rag wreaths. Student participation is voluntary. We are in need of more fabric – cotton and denim (old jeans or jackets) and are looking for donations. You can send in donations with your child or drop off in the lobby where there will be a donation box.
Also, the art room is accepting donations of beads, buttons, old jewelry and electronics!
Thank you for supporting our project and partnering with us to make a difference for the environment!
Sincerely, Mrs. E.

Se Busca Tela

¡Hola, comunidad HES!

Atentamente, Sra. E.
