Yoga4Families- TONIGHT

Pine Spring continues to be a Yoga4Classrooms school. We teach students how to use breathing paired with their body movements to support their mindfulness as part of this program. These strategies help students to self-regulate their emotions and behaviors.

On Thursday, March 10th, from 6PM-7PM, we encourage you to join one of our excellent teachers, Sarah Strong, as she helps families bring these strategies into the home. She will be sharing the thinking behind Yoga4Classrooms and how and when to use those strategies at home.

This will be a virtual event:

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

Your Feedback Is Important

This spring, all Pine Spring parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations, and professionalism.

Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Lockdown Drill

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.

A new Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.

We will conduct our second lockdown drill at our school soon. All students are required to participate.

Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.

Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Ganci, Assistant Principal.

Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey is coming to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage

School Improvement and Innovation Plan

Each year, Pine Spring creates a plan to support our students’ academic and wellness success called a School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP). This planning helps to guide our focus for the following year and how we allocate our school resources. If you are interested in participating in a committee that helps create and monitor this plan, please contact Ms. Yacubovich.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out to Ms. Breeden or call our main office at (571) 226-4400.

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Breeden, our student registrar in the main office.

Pine Spring PAWS Awards

Has someone at Pine Spring done something above and beyond? There are two great ways to share our team's impact on you, your child, or our community. You can submit a Pine Spring PAWS Award or an  FCPS Cares. Both are great ways to let our team know that they are making a difference for you and your child.
