Hidden Pond guest speaker at SEES

SEES Young Scholars learn about turtles, and other wildlife, during a visit from Hidden Pond Nature Center.

  • March 31: End of 3rd Quarter/Two-Hour Early Release. Students will be released at 2:05 PM.
  • March 31: Kindergarten Orientation for 2022-2023. 
  • April 1: Teacher Workday. School will be closed for students.

  • April 4 - April 8: Spring Break. School will be closed for staff and students.

Elementary Magnet School Lottery

The Magnet Lottery registration window opened Tuesday, March 1, 2022.  Families wanting to apply for the Magnet Lottery must have a SIS account.  If a student is not currently enrolled in FCPS, registration at the base school for the upcoming school year will be required.  

A separate application must be completed for each sibling applying.  Legacies also must apply to be eligible.  Acceptances into one of the magnet programs is not transferable into another program or school.

Registration for the elementary magnet school lottery closes on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 4:00 p.m.  No late applications will be accepted.

Stuff the Bus!

  • Stuff the Bus – March 19: Fight hunger in Fairfax County. Join us to Stuff the Bus on Sat, March 19 from 10 am-3 pm. Learn more here
  • Neighborhood College: Fairfax County’s Neighborhood College is a FREE eight-session virtual certificate program open to Mount Vernon District residents. Sessions will feature guest speakers, interactive activities, breakout room discussions, networking opportunities and information about advisory boards and other volunteer opportunities.     
  • Partnership for Healthier Communities: Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Medicaid members have been able to keep their health coverage even if their eligibility status changed. Soon Virginia and all other states will begin re-evaluating eligibility for Medicaid members, and we want all eligible Virginians to stay covered! It’s important that Virginia Medicaid has your most current mailing address, phone number and email address so we can reach you with information about your health coverage. Members can make updates online, through their local Department of Social Services, or by calling Cover Virginia at 1-855-242-8282.
