Mason Crest- March Family Updates

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The old saying is that March comes in like a lion, but goes out like a lamb. We have so much to share with you about what is happening at Mason Crest that it feels like quite the opposite around here. We are excited to share this with and to begin to welcome you back to the building for some fun student-centered activities.

Thank you,

Sherry, Andrew, and Larry

PTO Meeting

As we shared in the introduction to this letter, we have many things happening at Mason Crest this spring. Many of these events could not occur without the support and tireless work of the Mason Crest PTO. To best serve our students and community, we ask that you joining us at 6:30p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom and can be accessed at https://ncoa.zoom.us/j/94703455325?from=addon. If you are interested in assisting with any of our events or would just like to have a voice in what our PTO provides for our students, we would love to have you join us.

Nightly Reading

Although our school does not assign homework, each student is responsible for taking time each night to read. This is extremely important in the continued development of student reading skills. While your child may read independently or to a partner, we would also encourage you to read to your child as well. All of these activities are known to support students in their acquisition of listening, reading, and writing skills. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need assistance with making this happen in your home.

PTO Read-A-Thon

Does your child love to read? Do you love helping out Mason Crest? If so, the Mason Crest PTO has a great opportunity to do both as they will be sponsoring a schoolwide Read-A-Thon activity this spring. Each student will be provided with an individual web page which can be used by family, friends, and others to pledge funds based on the amount of books that the child will read between March 17 and March 31, 2022. The PTO will be creating each student's web page. Information on how to access it will be provided through the email address that you have registered with FCPS.

In addition to the excitement that our students already have for reading, they will also be competing for both individual and House based prizes. If you do not already know which house your child is a member of, please ask them! More information about this program will be shared through the Tuesday folder system. If you have any questions about the Read-A-Thon, please contact the Mason Crest PTO at masoncrestpto@gmail.com.
