Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,
Great things to celebrate at Rocky Run MS this week!
RRMS Recognized as Best of the Web!
Congratulations! Rocky Run Middle School has been recognized with the Best of the Web award as the FCPS Best Middle School Website for 2021-22! The annual Best of the Web Awards celebrate schools that create excellent websites to inform and engage readers. The winners remind us of the substantial talent that exists among the community of FCPS school web curators. We are so grateful to Pam Galietta (pictured above), SBTS, for her outstanding leadership and work on our RRMS website.
Students of the Month for February:
Teams of teachers recognize students for their consistent efforts to grow and learn and their committment to "Raising the Ram" in all they do at Rocky Run. Congratulations Rams! We are so proud of you. Our February students of the month are pictured below.
National School Social Worker Week:
We are very proud to recognize our Social Worker, Mary Wescott, for her outstanding committment to our students, staff and our community. We are so lucky to work with such a caring professional.
March in Virginia continues to be a roller coaster of warm and winter like days. We are looking forward to spring and the wonderful activities and learning opportunities ahead for our students and families. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
As always, I welcome your feedback, questions and suggestions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

SY22-23 Course Request Verification
All of our students have met with his/her school counselor individually to select their courses for next year. Students and parents can view their course requests in their SIS account under "Course Request".
Please note the following important items and feel free to contact your child's School Counselor with any questions.
-
This list is NOT a schedule, but a confirmation of the courses entered into SIS.
-
Music Courses - Students who have signed up for the music courses (Band, Orchestra and Chorus) will initially be placed in the beginner level until auditions and placements have been completed.
-
World Languages (high school credit bearing elective) - World Language courses are not a required course in Middle School. The courses are very rigorous and are ideal for students who have strong work habits. They must be on grade level or above for Reading and Math in order to be successful in class.
-
Academic Support Courses - Elective courses can be adjusted based on students' academic needs. Contact your child's teacher if you have questions regarding the support course recommendation.
- To make any changes to the courses and/or electives entered, please contact your child's counselor as soon as possible.
- Please note that SY22-23 staffing is based on students' course selections. It requires a firm commitment from your student. While we do our best to give everyone their first choice of electives, schedules may be adjusted based on their academic needs and/or scheduling conflicts.

Student FCPS Laptop Reminders:
Teachers and families have shared that some students are using a variety of technology tools and applications that are not approved by FCPS and can be distractcing in the learning environment. This week we shared with students via Schoology the following reminder:
Gaming, use of Google hangouts, chatting apps, creating additional profiles, and installing add ons to your laptops is a violation of the FCPS Acceptable Use Policy and can result in the loss of your laptop. The use of these items can also result in your laptop not peforming when needed for things like Horizon/eCart and Schoology. Please make sure you are using your FCPS device for school activities only. See Ms. Wilde in the Tech Office if you need assistance.
Please note that FCPS continually blocks specific programs and apps that are reported. However, because of the fast pace at which technology changes, we cannot keep up with all of the strategies that students use to access blocked apps and site. We ask that you talk with your student about using their laptop in accordance with FCPS policies.
