We realize that band classes have been seriously impacted this semester due to teacher absences and the substitute shortage that is impacting FCPS county-wide. At this time, we anticipate that this disruption will continue for the remainder of the school year. The Bush Hill team is closely working with the Band Dept leadership and Human Resources to address the situation, we will continue to provide updates as they become available. We realize that many families are renting instruments and are disappointed at the lack of band classes as a result. If you would like to withdraw your child from band class for the remainder of the year, please contact Ms. Elizabeth DePalma, our Registrar. Her email address is: efdepalma@fcps.edu
Dress Code
With the weather warming up, we have been fielding some questions relating to dress code. Students are expected to dress appropriately for the educational environment. Clothing which interferes with or disrupts the educational environment is unacceptable. As you know, dress code is included in the Students Responsibilities and Rights handbook. In addition, Regulation 2613 specifically guides dress code and goes into greater detail than the SR&R.
Cell Phone Guidelines
In Elementary school, phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. They may be utilized on campus only before and after school. Teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool, such as video creation or QR Code activities.

Holiday (Spring Break) |
We are so excited to announce we will be hosting a 2nd book fair this year! Our spring fair will take place from April 15 – April 22nd. We will be hosting 2 family nights again, on Tuesday, April 19th and Thursday, April 21st. Our winter fair was a record breaking fair for Bush Hill. We raised over $5,000 for our library! We are putting this money to use through the purchase of new books and better organizational systems to help our students easily find what they are looking for. We have many more projects in mind to continue creating a library that supports all of our learners. If you are interested in volunteering at our book fair please sign up here. We would not be able to host this event without the help of our fantastic volunteers!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We previously sent the SOL testing calendar home. The county previously advised us to avoid testing on May 2nd in observance of Eid. Family and student feedback alerted us to the fact that May 3rd would also not be an ideal test date as many students will still be home celebrating Eid. To properly observe the holiday, we are no longer testing on May 3rd and have had to shift the 4th and 5th grade reading test dates. The 5th grade math test dates were also shifted due to a planned teacher absence. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
