WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

bulletin board

Students loved trying to match staff with their baby/childhood photos! Thanks to Ms. Garcia-Henderson for creating this fun bulletin board.

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

News reports of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia have caused fear and anxiety for many families in our community for many different reasons. Some are worried about friends and family living overseas, or the potential of a loved one who serves our country being sent overseas. Others fear escalation that could impact the safety of nearby countries and the global economy.

News coverage can also be triggering for families who have experienced violence here at home or war in other parts of the world. Many of our own FCPS families have left countries in conflict, fleeing war and violence, often leaving loved ones behind in the process of seeking safety. This comes at a time when our country is still recovering from a pandemic that has disrupted our daily lives for two years.

Across FCPS, we stand in solidarity with all nations in conflict, seeking freedom from war, violence and oppression. We are here to be a safe space for our children and to provide support for families who are struggling.

Thank you for being a part of our school community and know that we are here to support your family. If support is needed, please reach out to me sbprindle@fcps.edu or the school counseling team Nancy Garcia-Henderson nagarciahend@fcps.edu and Chelsea Boateng cmboateng@fcps.edu.

Kindergarten Orientation for SY 2022-2023

We are excited to be welcoming a whole new group of students to Wakefield Forest this fall. We are hosting a virtual orientation, where we will review the program, share about WFES and answer questions. This orientation will be recorded and posted to the school website afterward. Additionally, we will host an in-person Kindergarten Open House. This will be an opportunity for families to drop off copies of registration materials, tour the school, and meet our kindergarten staff. Early Registration is key to WFES being fully staffed for the fall.

March 30 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM:          Virtual Kindergarten Orientation

March 31 from  2:15 – 3:30 PM:          In-Person Kindergarten Open House

FCPS Family Engagement Survey

On March 13, FCPS launched a Family Engagement Survey to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school community. Families have received an email directly from FCPS about the survey, which they will be able to complete on most electronic devices, including Smartphones. We encourage families to use the link sent to their email account. By participating in the Family Engagement Survey, parents/caregivers are making their voices heard around important topics impacting their students’ success. All responses will be confidential.

Survey topics include:

  • Welcoming environment
  • Communication
  • Student success
  • Advocacy
  • Family and school partnerships
  • Collaboration with the community to see if FCPS is meeting its goals at the school, region, and division levels

We will provide paper copies in the WFES office if you are interested in completing the survey in that manner.

BookFair

Spring Book Fair is March 21-25

The WFES Library is happy to announce that we will be again holding an in-person spring book fair the week of 3/21-3/25. Students will have the opportunity to shop our large selection of books during school hours each day. Keep an eye out for a detailed schedule of book fair hours and an overview of the offerings in Thursday folders on 3/10 and 3/17. Please note that we will NOT be hosting an evening event for this fair, and parents will not be permitted in the building during school hours for shopping. Online shopping will also be available from 3/18 through 3/31 by visiting https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wfes.

We are also looking for a limited number of volunteers to help set up, run, and pack up the fair.
