Kindergarten Registration

If you have a child who will be age 5 on or before September 30, 2022, then it is time to register your child for the 2022-2023 school year.  Children born after September 30, 2017 are ineligible to attend kindergarten.  The Code of Virginia does not allow exceptions for children born after this date.

We request that you begin the registration process as soon as possible. Registration information and forms are available online.

If this does not apply to you, please share this information with a neighbor whose child may be entering kindergarten. Thank you. We look forward to welcoming our new kindergartners and their families!

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

We continue to work to empower students to build positive relationships through the Positivity Project. For the next week, the focus will be on Love of Learning.

National School Social Work Week!

We greatly appreciate our school social worker,  Ms. Amy Marshall! This year we are especially grateful for the support she provides our students and families through the challenges that have arisen over the course of the pandemic. Ms. Marshall takes the time to build relationships with students and staff and seeks out opportunities to engage with families. She has also supported with our Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to help support students social and emotional well being.

Family Engagement Survey Opens March 13

On Sunday, March 13, in the afternoon, you will receive an email from Fairfax County Public Schools via K12 Insight regarding FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey. Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve our practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey. It will be available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Urdu, Farsi, and Amharic. Please visit our Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information and look for the survey in your inbox on March 13. Your voice matters!

Bonnie Brae's Family Liaison, Santanisha Chang, is available to support access to this survey. She can assist families by providing paper copies with language translations. Please feel free to reach out to Ms. Chang at schang@fcps.edu or text at 571-424-9433.

For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

Daylight Savings- Spring

It's Daylight Savings Time: Spring Forward!

Daylight Saving Time starts Sunday, March 13, 2022 and is a reminder that Spring will soon be here. We set our clocks forward one hour. While we may have sunnier days, the change in time can interrupt your child’s sleep rhythm. Losing an hour of sleep when we "spring forward" can take a toll on children, especially teens, leaving them sleepier during the day.

Here are a few tips.

  • Stick to bedtime routines.
  • Limit screen time for phones, computers, and TV before bed.
  • Get exercise and go outside to be exposed to natural sunlight.
  • Relax in the evenings with reading, or mindfulness exercises.
  • Prepare for the time change gradually over this coming week.

Time changes may cause some drowsy days. We usually adjust within about a week. Happy Spring!
