Family Engagement Survey Opens March 13
The FCPS 2022 Family Engagement Survey will launch for families on Sunday, March 13 - April 3, 2022.
Our Family Engagement Survey is coming to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.
Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.
FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!
How to Complete the Survey
There are three ways you can complete the survey:
- Check your email on March 13, for an invitation with a survey link from K12 Insight, with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.
- Ask the front office staff at WSHS for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
- Use one of the school computers. Front office staff or our Family Liaison would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically. Contact Jeff Toomer for assistance at (703) 913-3949 or email: jktoomer@fcps.edu.
Scan the QR Code in the flyer above, or take the survey via this link: Family Engagement Survey 2021-22. All responses are confidential.

Upcoming: April is Month of the Military Child
April 20th is Purple Up! Day
April is the annual celebration of Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experiences of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas.
At West Springfield, we have several activities planned to recognize who our military-connected students are and what life is like for them.
FCPS has also authorized a Purple Up! T-shirt that students and staff (and families) across the county can wear during the month, and especially on the day of our celebration, April 20th – Purple Up! Day.
Here’s the link to order your shirt. These are being bulk ordered on March 22nd so if you’re going to place an order, don’t delay. Shirts should arrive two weeks later.
We look forward to seeing everybody in purple in April.

Don’t Forget to Spring Forward!
This Sunday, March 13, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour! As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark.
Help your child stay safe by having him or her wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run or dart into the street or cross between parked cars.
