Multicultural Week

Dear Woodburn Families,

We hope you are staying healthy and well.  We continue to stay the course at Woodburn and are celebrating the academic and social gains our students are making each and every day.

Next week brings a multicultural celebration! Our Equity Committee has planned opportunities for us to learn about different traditions and cultures.  We hope you will join us next Friday, March 18 for our Multicultural Event and for our PTA Movie Night.  We look forward to watching Encanto as a community!

Multicultural Week

We are celebrating Multicultural Week at Woodburn next week, March 14-18. During this week our students will share and learn about the heritage and cultural traditions of our students’ and families. We will be sharing about places, traditions, dance, and clothing of cultures throughout the world. We will end the week with an opportunity for families to share about themselves by engaging in activities in the cafeteria before Movie Night on March 18th, from 6-7pm. We look forward to celebrating our community’s diversity!

Access to School Grounds and Tennis Courts

We have noticed an increase in community members walking on school grounds during school hours to access the tennis courts and/or to pass through to other parts of the neighborhood.  As a reminder, visitors are not permitted on school grounds from 9:00-4:05 each day.  Thank you for keeping our students and staff safe.

FCPS Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey is coming to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

Albuterol Availability for K-12 Students

In accordance with the Code of Virginia 22.1-274.2 each school in FCPS will have stock albuterol inhalers and valved holding chambers available to be administered to K-12 students with no known history of asthma who are believed to be having a respiratory emergency.

Stock albuterol inhalers are not to be administered to the following:

  • Students below the age of four
  • Staff
  • Visitors

The stock albuterol inhalers will be administered by school employees (to include local health department employees assigned to public schools) who have received training in the administration of albuterol inhalers.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out Ms. Garcia or call our main office at 703-641-8200.

Your Feedback is Important

This spring all Woodburn parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Health & Safety Reminders

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.

Monitoring Your Child's Health

Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day.  This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.

Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.

Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine

FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
