Volume 5, Issue 25; March 6, 2022
Thank you, Mrs. Daly!
Dear Flint Hill Family,
While we continue to be deeply invested in this year's learning outcomes, we do not want to miss an opportunity to continue to prepare you for the upcoming school year, too!
Families can be ready for next school year by taking care of required immunizations now.
The State of Virginia requires immunizations for entry into kindergarten, 7th grade, 12th grade, and when transferring into FCPS. The Fairfax County Health Department will be offering a special immunization clinic for Fairfax County students to complete their school vaccine requirements (the COVID-19 vaccine is not a required vaccine).
The clinic will be held on Saturday, March 12th, from 8 am to noon, at the Annandale District Office, 7611 Little River Turnpike, #400-E, Annandale, VA 22003. Please call 703-246-7100 to schedule an appointment.
In addition, March 6th-12th is National School Social Work week. We would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and recognize the impactful work that Susan Daly, our school social worker, engages in to support students, families, and our community. Beyond offering clinical support to Flint Hill students, Mrs. Daly connects families with resources that play a pivotal role in encouraging social, emotional, and academic success. We are incredibly grateful that Mrs. Daly has joined our Flint Hill family this year!
We look forward to another wonderful week and to seeing many of you at our Flint Hill Fam Jam!
Warmly,
Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg, Principal
Mr. Ross Baker, Assistant Principal
Attention 5th and 6th graders: Spring Chorus Opportunity!

To celebrate Earth Day, the Town of Vienna Conservation and Sustainability Commission (CSC) is excited to announce our second annual Student Creativity Contest! This competition is an opportunity for students to express thoughts on the environment and share imagination and art/writing skills. All students within the Madison Pyramid are invited to participate. The selected winners will receive a prize and have their essay/artwork featured at this year’s Green Expo!
Please see the additional details on this contest posted for download here. Please email questions and entries. Entries are due by 5 pm on Sunday, April 1st, 2022.
Parents and students are also invited to the Town’s Green Expo, which will be held at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St SE, on Thursday, April 28th from 7-9 pm. Come visit with more than 25 exhibitors providing information about composting and recycling, pollinators and native gardens, beekeeping, home energy efficiency, Solarize Vienna, green landscaping, ways to reduce plastics, citizen science, and other volunteer opportunities, sustainable businesses in Vienna, and much more. There will be a live raptor exhibit and an opportunity to ask questions of the Town’s arborist. Enter a raffle to win a free rain barrel or composter. Kids can grab a passport and visit exhibitors, learn about the environment, and earn a prize.
We continue to highlight learning experiences that support the acquisition of Portrait of a Graduate attributes and skills across our community and Google classrooms.
Mr. Bechtle's fifth graders and Ms. Kaluza's second graders were spotted buddy reading in our courtyard during Read Across America week! We love this #collaboration so much! Ask your child about their mystery readers and book selections from last week!
For more information on Portrait of a Graduate, ask your child how they are a communicator, collaborator, critical and creative thinker, goal-directed and resilient individual, or ethical and global citizen. Or, click here!
Please click on our hashtag, #FHESfamily, for more awesome highlights from Flint Hill! There are just too many to highlight them all!
