Dear Haycock Families,
We are so excited that our fourth grade students were able to take their field trip to Jamestown and Yorktown today. This field trip supports and enriches their study of Virginia history, plus it was a beautiful day.
We are looking forward to our in-person book fair the week of March 21-25. Thank you to the parents who have signed up to volunteer. Please see below for more details.
FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.
In accordance with the Code of Virginia 22.1-274.2 each school in FCPS will have stock albuterol inhalers and valved holding chambers available to be administered to K-12 students with no known history of asthma who are believed to be having a respiratory emergency.
We wish you a relaxing weekend.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, Assistant Principal haboyd@fcps.edu
Dana Chen, Assistant Principal dlchen@fcps.edu

Family Engagement Survey
On Sunday, March 13, in the afternoon, you will receive an email from Fairfax County Public Schools via K12 Insight regarding FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey. Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve our practices to best support our students.
Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.
FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey. It will be available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Urdu, Farsi, and Amharic. Please visit our Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information and look for the survey in your inbox on March 13. Your voice matters!
If you have questions, please contact our parent liaison, Elizabeth Shoemaker at eshoemaker@fcps.edu .
An Insider’s Guide to Celebrating Pi (π) Day
From the Exploratorium Museum,
Every year on March 14—Albert Einstein’s birthday—number lovers can raise a piece of pie to Pi (π) Day, an international celebration of one of math’s most famous constants: the irrational, never-ending number π, pronounced pi (3.14159...). Exploratorium physicist Larry Shaw invented the playful celebration in 1988, and Congress declared it an official U.S. national holiday in 2009. The San Francisco museum continues its annual festivities with an all-ages Pi Day celebration on March 14, 2022.
Celebrate Pi Day wherever you are. From the pie feast to the Pi procession and π activities. The Exploratorium demystifies some of our long-standing Pi Day rituals and offers insight into a few fun ways for anyone to celebrate this infinite decimal. Visit their website to learn more.
