We are officially partners with Harris Teeter and their Together in Education program.

Our account number is 7128.

Simply tell your cashier during check-out, that you want the Key Middle School account number (7128) linked to your Harris Teeter VIC card. Once the account number is linked, every time you shop during the program, 5% of your Harris Teeter brand purchases will be contributed by Harris Teeter to Key Middle School’s account.

Viewing Student Grades

We have reached the middle of the 3rd Quarter! Please check your student’s grades in SIS ParentVue to see how they are doing and encourage them to complete assignments on time. If they are behind in any class, please encourage them to work with their teachers on a plan to get caught up.

The last day of the 3rd Quarter is March 31, 2022 and it will be here before we know it!

After School Safety

As the weather gets warmer, more students are spending time at Springfield Mall after school.

If students are walking to the mall after school, students should have parent/guardian permission to go anywhere other than home.

Please remind students:

  • To use crosswalks and cross streets when it is SAFE to do so - follow the crosswalk signals
  • They are guests at all restaurants and stores and need to behave in a respectful manner
  • Stay out of parking lots - there should not be anyone running or playing in the parking lots - it is not safe

Parent Internet Activity Reports

FCPS parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s Internet browsing activity on an FCPS device can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service. The report provides a list of the top sites the child visited that week.

Additionally, if parents wish to get more detailed information, the weekly Parent Report offers parents the ability to self-sign-up to the free Internet Use Parent Portal. Parents who sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal can log-in any time to see a little more detail about their child’s internet browsing. The portal also offers the parent added ability to “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours on the FCPS device.

Interested parents can submit a request directly from the Technology Support for Families page for weekly Parent Reports. FCPS will validate the enrolling parent’s email in SIS, and once processed, the parent will receive a weekly report over each weekend from our internet content filtering service, Lightspeed. Feel free to include this information in any newsletters or informational outreach to FCPS parents.

Community Questionnaire

Community Feedback Form

This spring all Key MS parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

FCPS' Use of Federal (ESSER III) Funding

We encourage you to participate in a public engagement opportunity related to how FCPS is meeting ESSER III requirements for ensuring a safe return to in-person instruction and providing continuity of learning. As a reminder, last fall, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding to address the impacts of COVID-19 on students. Grant focus areas include:

  • Prevention and mitigation strategies to help keep schools open and safe for students and staff.
  • Academic intervention services, such as tutoring, after-school programs, and summer learning programs.
  • Equity professional development to ensure our schools are welcoming and culturally responsive to all students and families.
  • Multilingual engagement to ensure information is accessible to all families.
  • Additional support for students’ social-emotional needs.

All of these areas impact student success! Please provide input today via our online feedback form. For more information on the ESSER III grant, please watch this video and visit the FCPS website.
