Great Things Happening at Cub Run!

The PTA-sponsored Science Fair was a big hit this week! Along with all the learning  our Cubby scientists do in their classrooms every day, some of our scientists took that extra step by entering the Science Fair, where curiosity and scientific thinking were on full display!

And that's not all! Cub Run readers and their families joined us for the first Cub Run Family Book Club!  Many thanks to our PTA for hosting, and to 1st grade teachers Catherine Vodi and Jenna Jensen and Principal Lorenzi for facilitating the discussions! We can't wait for the next book club!

Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!

This spring, all Cub Run parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey was emailed the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage HERE. Your voice matters!

Kindergarten Registration, Orientation, and Kinder Camp 2022

Do you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2022? If so, your child is eligible for Kindergarten 2022-2023. Please register your child at this link, or contact our registrar, Doris Velez, at davelez@fcps.edu to begin the enrollment process. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please have them contact the school, as we are especially interested in reaching those Cub Run families who do not have children currently attending school.

Mark your calendars for our Kindergarten Orientation dates:

  • Virtual orientation on Tuesday, May 24th at 2:00
  • In-person orientation on Thursday, May 26th at 2:00.

Kinder Camp will take place August 9-11 from 8:30 to 11:00. More information to come!

Parent/Guardian Notification of Naglieri Testing: Grade 1 & Select Students in Grades 2-6

In an effort to obtain additional information about your child, the online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to your first grade child on Tuesday, March 22. It is important that your child attend school on this day. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

NNAT LOGO

The NNAT3 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. Students are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The NNAT3 is an abilities test, so students should not study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.

Score reports will be provided to parents once scores become available. Typically, these reports are available in Mid-May. If you have any questions about this test, please contact the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Mrs. Val Sesso: vmsesso@fcps.edu, or School Test Coordinator, Mrs. Nausheen Haider: nfhaider@fcps.edu.

There are a few students in grades 2-6 who will also receive this assessment. The parents of those students will receive a separate notification letter.
