It is with joy that I announce that Ms. Afton Carlson will be our new Assistant Principal here at Forestville!
Ms. Carlson is coming to us after spending a year in Loudoun County Public Schools as an instructional facilitator. Before that position, she worked as a teacher and School Based Technology Specialist. A good portion of that time was spent at Great Falls Elementary School, so she is very familiar with our community!
Ms. Carlson’s start date will be Monday, February 28, 2022. Please make sure that you say hi when you get a chance to see her and welcome her to our Forestville community!

Forestville Community,
It is with great enthusiasm that I join the Forestville Elementary School Community. I am truly honored to accept this new role as assistant principal.
I began my career in education teaching 5th grade, in a middle school setting, for Harrisonburg City Schools. After teaching 5th grade, I moved to Fairfax County, where I worked for six years as a classroom teacher, teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. In 2018 I transitioned into the School-Based Technology Specialist (SBTS) role at Great Falls Elementary, right down the road from Forestville! Most recently, I served as an instructional facilitator for Loudoun County.
I graduated from James Madison University (GO DUKES!) with my master's in education and most recently from Virginia Tech with a degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. My decision to become an administrator comes from a strong belief that all students should have access to engaging instructional practices that welcome exploration and opportunities to develop their life-long skills for success.
I am excited to begin supporting Forestville Elementary School this coming Monday, February 28th, 2022. I look forward to working alongside Mr. Washington, the Forestville teachers, staff, and families as we continue to build a structure of collaborative partnerships so that all students have a variety of opportunities for success. We are happy to announce that we are taking registrations for students who will be in Kindergarten during the 2022-2023 school year. In order to register your child for the 2022-2023 school year, parents will need to complete the registration forms, provide the original birth certificate, a copy of their deed or lease with their name on it as proof of residency, and provide the Virginia School Entrance Health Form, completed and signed by a U.S. physician. The physical must be dated within twelve months of the projected school start date of August 22, 2022.
Here at Forestville, we will be hosting a Kindergarten Orientation for our Forestville families. The orientation is for children who will be 5 years old by September 30, 2022. The orientation will give you the opportunity to meet our K team and other Forestville staff members, learn about our K program, see what a day in the life of a kindergartener looks like and provide you with a Q&A session to answer any questions you may have.
This year, we will have an in-person Kinder Orientation, with a virtual online streaming component for those families who would prefer that option. Please get registered as soon as possible, whether you are coming in-person or streaming virtually. For those families that would like the virtual option, that zoom link will be sent to you as we get closer to the orientation date.
Here are the details for the orientation:
What: Kindergarten Orientation
Where: In-person at Forestville Elementary (cafeteria); with a virtual streaming option through zoom as well
When: Thursday, March 31st from 3:00-4:00pm
Visitors: In compliance with FCPS’ masking protocols, all visitors and staff will be required to wear masks at this time.
Important Note: For those families attending the orientation in-person, please bring your rising Kindergarten child with you to the orientation. During the orientation session for parents, your children will be split between the three kindergarten classrooms where they will participate in some enjoyable activities. Forestville Elementary staff members will be in the classrooms supervising them, while parents are in the cafeteria going through the orientation with our Kindergarten teachers. We ask that you please try and limit the number of family participants to the Orientation to the best of your ability; to include parents/guardians and your rising kindergartener.
