ESSER III
We encourage you to participate in a public engagement opportunity related to how FCPS is meeting ESSER III requirements for ensuring a safe return to in-person instruction and providing continuity of learning. As a reminder, last fall, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding to address the impacts of COVID-19 on students. Grant focus areas include:
- Prevention and mitigation strategies to help keep schools open and safe for students and staff.
- Academic intervention services, such as tutoring, after-school programs, and summer learning programs.
- Equity professional development to ensure our schools are welcoming and culturally responsive to all students and families.
- Multilingual engagement to ensure information is accessible to all families.
- Additional support for students’ social-emotional needs.
All of these areas impact student success! Please provide input today via our online feedback form. For more information on the ESSER III grant, please watch this video and visit the FCPS website.
In School Vaccination Clinic
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is happy to partner with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to provide a 5-11 vaccination clinic at Gunston Elementary School on February 23, 2022 and March 16, 2022 at 9:30am. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination helps reduce the severity of illness and remains the best tool for ending the pandemic and is one of our layered prevention strategies.
Your child’s school was selected to host one of these clinics based on lower-than-average vaccination rates in the school community as indicated by FCHD data. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and FCHD have a partnership with Ashbritt/IEM, a medical contractor providing COVID-19 services across the country. Ashbritt/IEM is an experienced provider of approved COVID-19 vaccinations for children and adults. Pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners will administer pediatric specific doses and monitor children post-vaccination.
The two vaccination clinics will be held in school during the school day and conducted within three weeks of each other to include the first and second doses. Vaccinations will be provided only to students enrolled at this school who have provided parental/legal guardian consent.
If you’d like to have your child vaccinated at this school clinic, (during the school day), please fill out the attached parent/legal guardian consent and health history form and return to clbaltimore@fcps.edu by February 22, 2022.
