Announcement From the Principal

Last week we shared the Fairview plan for ESSER funds being used to support academics. We want to take this opportunity to share some elements of our wellness plan using ESSER funds to meet the social emotional needs of students. Our funding is being used to purchase Calm Down Kits to include fidget sensory toys, coloring items, and liquid motion timers for students to use in each classroom, create a sensory pathway in the building, promote the Positivity Project throughout the school with visual reminders of character strengths as well as purchasing social emotional learning curriculum that will be used in every classroom to address specific needs across grade levels and in individual classes. One program we are focusing on is Unstuck and On Target, an Executive Function Curriculum to Improve Flexibility, Planning, and Organization. We are partnering with Children’s National Hospital to pilot their new curriculum and are excited to see the growth and use a common language to help all students get unstuck and stay on target.

We are also having more staff members trained in Responsive Classroom practices. Responsive Classroom is a student-centered, social emotional learning approach to teaching. It is comprised of a set of research, and evidence-based practices designed to create safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities for both students and teachers. Lastly, we are unrolling a small group Mindfulness Program to target individual student’s needs and have teacher directed lessons to help students stay centered, engaged, and have a safe space to share their thoughts and feelings and feel more connected to the community.

Students

Student's Intentions for

Next Year

Please check your child’s Wednesday Folder today for a Student’s Intention For The Next School Year form.  This will help us identify who is returning to Fairview, who is moving away, and who is matriculating to Robinson for the next school year, 2022-2023.

An accurate projection of our student body provides a basis for planning for the next year.  Please complete and return the form promptly.

Bus

Dismissal Reminder

As the weather begins to warm up, we understand that students may want to spend time after school at another student’s home.  Please remember that parental permission is required to change a student’s dismissal plan.  Written acknowledgement of the plan must be received by the Fairview Attendance line (email FairviewElem.Attendance@fcps.edu ) from a parent of each student.  This applies to change of dismissal plans for walkers and students who will be departing Fairview via Kiss & Ride.  Students are only permitted to ride their assigned buses to and from Fairview Elementary.

Help Deliver Meals

Help Deliver Meals to Families in Need

Would you like to deliver unopened food and milk from school lunches to local families in need?  We are very happy to restart our food donation program, but we will need your help to do it! Volunteers are needed once a week to take unopened, pre-packaged food and drinks to the Katherine Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax. Volunteers will come to school after lunch and will not have contact with students. Details are available in this Sign Up Genius
