Runner Express #3

Principals' Message

Good afternoon Roadrunner families,

It was such an honor to meet so many parents at our initial SHP (School-Home-Partnership) meeting and hear your concerns regarding the vision of Lorton Station Elementary and your hopes for the school in the coming years. One significant hope was an event in which the community could come together and share a mutual experience and return to a semblance of normal. I am fully in favor of such an event and look forward to working with SHP to coordinate the event and time  representatives and staff are excited that many parents want to join a community event. A strong school-community partnership is necessary for the future of Lorton Station to meet the needs of a vibrant school. I hope everyone will join us for our next SHP meeting and volunteer at future events! If you are interested in a one on one meeting to share your vision and hopes for Lorton Station, please email me at flegagneur@fcps.edu

Warmest Regards

Lorton Community Vision Survey

It’s time to weigh in on the Lorton Visioning Study! A community survey for the study is now open for the public to provide feedback on the future vision for the Lorton area as the county considers potential updates to land use, placemaking, parks, multi-modal transportation infrastructure and more for the Comprehensive Plan. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts for the future of Lorton.

The survey is available in English or Spanish.

Dear Families,

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is happy to partner with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to provide a 5-11 vaccination clinic at Lorton Station March 7th at 9:30 AM (with the clinic for the second vaccine happening March 28th). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination helps reduce the severity of illness and remains the best tool for ending the pandemic and is one of our layered prevention strategies.

Our school was selected to host one of these clinics based on lower-than-average vaccination rates in the school community as indicated by FCHD data. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and FCHD have a partnership with Ashbritt/IEM, a medical contractor providing COVID-19 services across the country.  Ashbritt/IEM is an experienced provider of approved COVID-19 vaccinations for children and adults. Pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners will administer pediatric specific doses and monitor children post-vaccination.

The two vaccination clinics will be held in school during the school day and conducted within three weeks of each other to include the first and second doses. Vaccinations will be provided only to students enrolled at this school who have provided parental/legal guardian consent.

If you’d like to have your child vaccinated at this school clinic, (during the school day), please fill out the  parent/legal guardian consent and health history form and return to the main office by February 14th. If you would like a paper copy of the form, please contact Adriana Flores at aflores2@fcps.edu

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools open and safe places to learn.

Sincerely,

Francis Legagneur
