Don't forget that school is closed on Monday, February 21st in celebration of President's Day. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday, February 22nd. We hope everyone enjoys their three-day weekend!

Spring Hill Ambassador Program

At Spring Hill we value inclusivity in our community. We have a team of ambassadors to help welcome new families from around the world, near and far. There are two types of ambassadors: language ambassadors and family ambassadors. In both roles, we ask that ambassadors encourage new families to get involved by attending the various events at Spring Hill. It is also great to invite families to join the PTO. American Heart Association

Kid's Heart Challenge Fun Run

This year we are inviting our Panther families to come and join us for an American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge Fun Run on March 11th.  As a Kids Heart Challenge Heart Hero, your student will help raise funds for the health of all hearts and become a heart hero! On Friday, March 11th, for PE class, we will be taking he students outside for a lap challenge. Students that sign up will be challenged to run as many laps as they can around the track within the PE time allowed.

Parents, we are asking you to sponsor your child and make a donation amount per lap or a one-time donation. More importantly, we are asking the Spring Hill parents to come join us and cheer on all the students participating in the KHC run!

Join today! Not only will you be helping fight heart disease and stroke (the No. 1 and No. 2 killers worldwide), but participants can earn fun thank-you gifts AND earn PE equipment for their school!

We are looking forward to seeing our community come together for this event!

Testing Updates

Naglieri Testing (1st Grade Students)

The online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to all first graders on March 21st or March 22nd. The official testing letter  was sent home in Thursday folders of this week.

Standards of Learning (SOL's)

Students in grades 3-6 in our school will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) this Spring.

Federal law requires schools to give SOL tests in reading, mathematics, and science. SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills detailed in state standards. Tests provide information about student achievement to the parent, school, division, and state. SOL scores are available for families before the next school year. Spring Hill will be administering the SOL's on the following dates:

Performance-Based Assessments Allow Students to Show What They Know

FCPS students in grades 3-8 will participate in performance-based assessments (PBAs) again this year in place of Standards of Learning (SOL) tests to show what they know about their elementary and middle school course standards. PBAs are an innovative assessment practice tied to students’ development of Portrait of a Graduate skills

PBAs require students to perform a task that teachers score using a descriptive rubric. Examples include participating in a debate, creating a persuasive piece of media, or writing an essay. The following courses use at least one PBA each year as part of state expectations: grade 3 science, grades 3-8 social studies, grade 5 writing, and grade 8 writing.

To learn more about PBAs in grades 3-8 and how you can support your student, visit the Local Alternative Assessment and PBA public webpage.

Positivity Project

Next Week’s Positivity Trait is Other People Mindset-Cheering Others' Success. This means that when other people succeed, we am happy for them and cheer them on.
