Dear Fairfax Family,
Happy Friday!
Good luck to our state wrestlers, gymnasts, and swimmers who are competing this weekend in the VHSL State Tournaments! Congratulations to our boys basketball team who defeated WT Woodson HS on Wednesday night in the district quarterfinals, 39-35. The team plays tonight at South County HS versus West Potomac HS in the Patriot District Finals! Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students. You can buy tickets before you arrive at South County HS with the following ETIX link: https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/18639/south-county-high-school-athletics. Tonight’s game will also be streamed on the NFHS Network: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/events/south-county-high-school-lorton-va/gam6dbfd7c640.
One of the goals of our athletic department is for student athletes to learn lifelong values. Sportsmanship is one such value that makes these games an educational experience. Parents and coaches who emphasize good sportsmanship help young athletes learn respect for others and self-control. These skills can help them manage other parts of their lives, and help them develop into respectful and successful young adults. Always remember, extracurricular activities are the other half of your child’s education. I encourage you to join your children and come out tonight to support our LIONS!
Wishing you all a wonderful and safe weekend!
Best regards,
Maureen
Fairfax HS has our second VA Posse Scholar!
Congratulations to Kathleen Oliva Ulanday who was selected from more than 1,400 nominations to become a recipient of the Posse Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship to the College of William & Mary. Posse Scholars have demonstrated extraordinary leadership within their high school, community and/or family, and excelled academically. Kathleen will join a national network of young leaders who work to make the world a better place. For more information about Posse, see: https://www.possefoundation.org/.
We are confident that Kathleen will contribute in great ways to Posse and the William & Mary community. Fairfax High School could not be prouder…GO KATHLEEN!
Fairfax HS is Hosting VBODA
This year, Fairfax High School is hosting the VBODA District XI Concert Band Assessment. An opportunity for ensembles in our district to be adjudicated and earn the title of Virginia Honor Band. It’s a very important event, and Fairfax High School is honored to be hosting this year.
This is a massive two-day event, and we will need an army of volunteers to make it happen! It starts Thursday, March 3, in the evening to set up, followed by all day Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5. There are 160 volunteer slots that we need to fill, so we hope you can find one (or more!) that works for you.
This SignUp Genius for volunteers is here:

We are also looking for donations of concessions and hospitality items, and that SignUpGenius can be found here:
