Dear Marshall Road Families,

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Students and staff found creative and fun ways to spread love and show appreciation for one another today.  It is often in small ways such as a kind word, a smile, a card or taking a moment to listen to someone, that means the most.  These are gifts we can give to one another every day of the year!

Next Monday, February 21, is a student holiday and there will be no school for students and staff. We are hoping the weather will begin to warm up and we can resume eating outside again soon.  We will keep you informed.

Our Kindergarten Orientation presentation will be virtual this year.  A link to the orientation video will be sent to families and posted on our school website in the next few weeks for you to view at your convenience.  A Question and Answer Google form will be posted allowing parents to ask questions and receive answers from an administrator.

We would like to invite rising kindergarten parents and students to visit the school on March 3, 2:45-4:00 pm using the alpha order by last name schedule below.  Families will be given a tour of the school and will have an opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom.  We will also schedule a few summer tours for those who are unable to attend on March 3.  Please share this information with friends and neighbors who have a rising kindergarten student.  Thank you.

School Events & Information

Read Across America Week

Read Across America Week is right around the corner!  This year, we will be celebrating February 28- March 3.  Friday, March 4th is a student holiday, so there will be no events that day.  During this week, we will celebrate the love and joy of reading with lots of fun events and activities like virtual author visits from David Biedrzycki and Laura Murray, One Book/One School in which the whole schools reads and discusses the same book (“Change Sings” by Amanda Gorman), dress up days and more!  For a schedule of events and information about dress up days, please click here.  If you have any questions or concerns about Read Across America Week, contact Librarian, Lisa Hoffman: lahoffman@fcps.edu.

MRES Yearbook Orders

Online yearbook orders are in full swing.  Use this link to preorder a yearbook and pay by credit card.  If you prefer to pay $20.00 by cash or check, please send an envelope to the main office with your child’s name, grade and teacher name before the order deadline of April 23, 2022.  Checks should be made payable to Marshall Road ES.  All yearbooks purchased in advance will be distributed during the last 2 weeks of the school year.  There will be a limited number of yearbooks available for cash and carry after distributing the pre-orders. 

Open House for Language Arts Basal Resources

The Elementary Language Arts Office will host an Open House for public review of the Elementary Language Arts Basal Resources on Saturday, February 26, 2022, 8:30 am-3:30 pm.  The FCPS community and staff are invited to come to the Willow Oaks Administrative Center to view the print materials under consideration for adoption in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.

Materials are located in the FCPS Willow Oaks lobby and members of the Elementary Language Arts team will be available to greet visitors. 

PTA Update

Dining for Dollars at Foster's Grille 

Come celebrate "TWOSday" at Foster's Grille on 2/22/22!  Dine-in or order to-go from 11:00 am-9:00 pm and Foster’s Grille will donate 20% of all proceeds to Marshall Road.  Simply drop the receipt into the box in the store or mention Marshall Road PTA in the special instructions/comments section when ordering online.  See flyer here.   

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day 

School bus drivers always go the extra mile for our students!  Let's show them our appreciation on School Bus Driver Appreciation Day which is Tuesday, February 22!  As you are getting your students on and off the bus, take a moment to thank them for all they do.  If you have time, consider having your student prepare a card, picture, or small gift to give to them that day.
