Another fabulous week complete! Friday was absolutely gorgeous as I spent time outside with students enjoying the warm weather during lunch! Looking forward to the 100th Day of School and Valentine’s Day tomorrow. See the note below about Wednesday - LRES Polo Day for all students and staff.
Lemon Road has been monitoring the safety of students during arrival. Drivers may not drop students off in front of the school by car or from Idylwood Road. Parents that are walking with their children to the entrance must park legally in a parking spot. Students are encouraged to arrive on the bus, walking using the crosswalk, or by car utilizing Kiss & Ride. Thank you for helping us keep all lions safe!
Looking forward to another great week ~ Mrs. Castillo
Lifetouch will come on Wednesday to take photos of students that participate in clubs at Lemon Road and then capture candid moments throughout each classroom in the school. We ask all students & staff to wear their polos on Wednesday. Students must wear their polo in the club photos and we have limited extra to provide them if they forget. Clubs that will specifically be featured include: Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade Strings, Science Olympiad, SCA officers and Classroom Representatives, News Crew, Eco Defense Squad, Trout Team, Recycling Squad, Fifth & Sixth Grade Band, Chorus, Patrols and Patrol Officers, and Math Club.
We need 3 parent volunteers to support that morning. If you are able to help students with their photos between 8:15 - 11:00 AM, please email Mary Anne Nealson at manealson@fcps.edu.
This week, Lemon Road welcomed Mrs. Carol Ferry - Lemon Road’s new part-time ESOL teacher! She will be with us Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. We are excited to have someone with such depth and breadth of experience working with us!
On another note, Lemon Road has been given the opportunity to hire a special education IA substitute for the remainder of the year. This would be a great opportunity for someone dabbling in education, between jobs, or in school with some flexible schedules. Please let Mrs. Castillo know if you have anyone that might be interested. We could offer a modified schedule for the right person!!
Lemon Road cannot wait to welcome our new lions to school. Knowing how many kindergartners we will have allow us to secure the very best teachers for your children. Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible so that the school can make appropriate plans for the number of students, teachers, and classrooms that will be needed in the fall. To begin the registration process, please follow these steps:

You value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others’ needs ahead of his/her own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when he/she is not around.
Solo and Ensemble – For 4th – 6th graders enrolled in Band or Strings:
Solo and Ensemble Festival is a voluntary event where students enrolled in band or strings have the opportunity to perform for specialists on their instrument. This year the Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held virtually. Each student will receive constructive comments and a rating of their performance. Students who earn a superior or excellent rating will receive an award medal from the Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association. If your child has strong practice habits and enjoys a challenge, this festival will be a valuable experience! If you would like to learn more about this event, please contact your band teacher, Ms. Eyink (jaeyink@fcps.edu), or strings teacher, Ms. Su (asu@fcps.edu).
Vienna Band Camp:
Vienna Band Camps is for students currently in 4th – 9th grade and it takes place Monday – Friday, June 14th – July 4th at Longfellow Middle School.
