Dear Families,
This week was School Counselor Appreciation Week. Our students and staff showed how much we love Ms. Pozinsky (Ms. Poz as the students say) and Ms. Meehan with cards, notes, and decorations!!! They were celebrated all week long.
Continuing with celebrations, Ms. Becker received an FCPS Cares awards. Make sure to congratulate her!!!!
We love having our Tuesday folder volunteers back in the building!! We have an additional volunteer opportunity. If you are interested in volunteering in the clinic, please reach out to one of us (spalmquist@fcps.edu or jpredford@fcps.edu). We will connect you with the school health nurse for a short training.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or compliments you may have. If you have seen a Clearview staff member going above and beyond fill out an FCPS Cares here.
Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

CONTACT TRACING
While the Virginia Department of Health shifted the expectation for contact tracing in schools to only on outbreaks, the CDC continues to indicate that contact tracing, in combination with testing, wearing a well-fitting mask, and quarantine and isolation, are effective strategies to identify people with COVID-19 (cases) and to reduce transmission.
FCPS has and continues to implement CDC recommendations, to the greatest extent practicable, to prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19 in schools and to foster the continuation of in-person learning for students and staff. As a result, FCPS will continue contact tracing until further notice.
The following changes are effective 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 4:
- FCPS Pause (Close Contact) Letter includes quarantine guidance and replaces the FCHD quarantine email to families
- FCPS Student Quarantine Exemption and Attestation Form replaces the FCHD Vaccine Verification Survey (Will be embedded in the FCPS Pause Letter and available on the FCPS webpage, physical copies will be available if needed)
Monitoring COVID-19 cases is critical to maintaining a safe in-person learning environment for all students. Please continue to let us know if your child has tested positive for COVID-19 or may be a close contact. We will work with you through the process to return your child to the classroom as quickly as possible.
Students May Submit
COVID Vaccination Status
You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information with Clearview Elementary. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity.
If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Nalei Meness, our registrar. COVID-19 vaccination documentation contains Protected Health Information and should not be emailed.
As always, you are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
FCPS Off Ramp Plan and Future Response to Surges
FCPS has been working with health experts to determine a safe and effective plan to scale back layered prevention measures. A rollback of any of our layered prevention measures needs to be in line with
- community transmission data; and
- health and scientific recommendations.
This week, Fairfax County had declines in community transmission levels and if the trend continues, our region will soon move into moderate transmission.
Specifically, for the FCPS layered prevention strategy rollback, FCPS is looking at total new cases over the past 7 days per 100,000 people as our measurement. See the chart below for the numbers that would impact our status as high, substantial, moderate, or low
When Fairfax County has been in moderate transmission for seven consecutive days, FCPS will make the following changes to our layered prevention strategies:
Masking will be optional. Universal masking will only be required during high or substantial community transmission rates. There may also be times such as an outbreak, when individual schools or subsets of schools ask students and staff to wear masks during mask-optional community transmission levels to protect the public health.
NOTE: In accordance with the Department of Labor and Industry, FCPS employees who are not fully vaccinated/are unvaccinated MUST continue to remain masked while indoors, regardless of transmission level.
Student Screening Testing - FCPS will move to a dynamic testing plan. Screening testing will be available during moderate, substantial and high community transmission to the greatest extent practicable, in alignment with CDC guidance. Screening testing for students will not be offered during low transmission.
Contact Tracing, Isolation and Quarantine - FCPS will continue with isolation, quarantine, and contact tracing. We will continue to provide updates should the guidance change.
FCPS will continue to utilize the model outlined above, should our community transmission rates continue to fluctuate.
 LANGUAGE ARTS
RESOURCE REVIEW
Parents, students, and community members have a unique opportunity to help FCPS select important learning resources. These reviews do not happen frequently, so selected resources will be in classrooms for years and are a significant financial investment.
Resources for elementary language arts are being reviewed through February 28. Interested individuals can review and provide feedback on digital resources online. Physical texts can be reviewed at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center in the lobby. Please ask about the books at the reception desk from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. In-person review hours will be extended to 7 p.m. on February 3, 10, 17, and 24. You are encouraged to review both sets of resources for the full catalog of resources under review. Learn more about the elementary language arts resource review here.
Understanding ESSER III Funding’s Impact on Student Success
Last fall, FCPS received $188.6 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding. These funds have helped us safely reopen our schools and to keep them open. We have also been able to address the impacts of COVID-19 on students. If you are not familiar with ESSER III, here are a few things you should know about how it impacts student success. ESSER III focus areas include:
- Prevention and mitigation strategies to help keep schools open and safe for students and staff.
- Academic intervention services, such as tutoring, after-school programs, and summer learning programs.
- Professional development to ensure our schools are welcoming and culturally responsive to all students and families.
- Multilingual engagement to ensure information is accessible to all families.
- Additional support for students’ social emotional needs.
There will be two opportunities for you to tell us how well FCPS is meeting ESSER III requirements around a safe return to in-person instruction and continuity of learning. Please stay tuned for details! Visit the ESSER III webpage for more information.
