Principal's Message

Dear Shrevewood Families,

It was another great week, and we heard lots of positive comments on the less frigid weather. We enjoyed being outside more and more this week.

We loved celebrating our School Counselors, Cameron Boster and Natasha Hill, throughout the week. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, was created to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success. We are so grateful for each of them and all they do for our Shrevewood students!

February is Black History Month, and the theme for 2022 is "Black Health and Wellness." The Library of Congress details how Carter G. Woodson successfully advocated for the creation of a Negro History Week in 1925 to raise awareness of African Americans’ contributions to civilization and the celebration was expanded to a month in 1976. Shrevewood students learn about many ways African Americans have shaped and experienced life in the US, this month and all year long.

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our Tuesday PTA Meeting. Our guest speaker was Mary Smith.  She educated our PTA about anxiety in kids and how to help support your child process anxiety. If you would like learn more about her services, here is the link to access her website. Our next PTA meeting is March 8th at 7pm.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Susie Lilburn, Assistant Principal

2022-2023 Kindergarten Survey

We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete this form and return it no later than March 1, 2022. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Shrevewood families who do not have children currently attending school.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than March 1, 2022. Should you have any questions please contact our SIA/Registrar, Maria Giuliani.
